It has been a busy day in Serie A with several transfers completed, including Simon Sohm to Fiorentina and Abdoulaye Ndiaye coming in at Parma.

Which official transfers were announced in Serie A on August 4, 2025?

Football Italia takes a look at every confirmed move in Italy’s top flight today.

The Stadio Tardini was the centre of attention today, with one player coming in and another going out.

Sohm headed for the exit and completed his €15m plus €1m in add-ons transfer to Fiorentina, with the Ducali keeping a cut of the future sale fee.

Meanwhile, Parma brought in central defender Ndiaye from Troyes, with an agreement believed to be worth €6.5m plus bonuses.

Elsewhere, Roma have sold Ola Solbakken to Nordsjaelland after a series of loan experiences, bringing in a fee of circa €1m.

Bologna also sold defender Martin Erlic to FC Mitdjylland, again in the Danish Super League, for a reported €5m.

Bernardeschi avoids serious injury, still out for 3 weeks https://football-italia.net/bernardeschi-avoids-serious-injury-3-weeks/ https://football-italia.net/bernardeschi-avoids-serious-injury-3-weeks/#comments Sun, 03 Aug 2025 12:51:58 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=906175

Bologna will be without new signing Federico Bernardeschi for at least three weeks after a knee injury, but fears of ligament damage were fortunately unfounded.

The former Toronto FC wide forward made the move to the Stadio Dall’Ara as a free agent this summer and was hoping to reboot his career after his time in Major League Soccer.

There was an immediate setback, as after converting a penalty in the friendly match against Vis Pesaro, he limped off with a knee injury.

Bernardeschi knee injury not too serious

Reports immediately suggested they feared it could be serious with ligament damage and possibly the requirement for surgery.

However, today it was confirmed Bernardeschi had only suffered a sprain to the right knee.

It still means he will be out of action for circa three weeks, but he can at least hope to be back in action for the Serie A season opener against Roma.

A more likely scenario is to get him ready for the Week 2 fixture against Como.

Conte identifies ideal McTominay backup in Serie A https://football-italia.net/conte-ideal-mctominay-backup-serie-a-fabbian/ https://football-italia.net/conte-ideal-mctominay-backup-serie-a-fabbian/#respond Sat, 02 Aug 2025 09:37:15 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=906069

Antonio Conte has identified Bologna’s Giovanni Fabbian as the ideal backup for Scotland international Scott McTominay, although Napoli remain interested in Fabio Miretti as well.

Napoli may sign a new central midfielder this summer, with Miretti and Fabbian among their main targets in that position.

Conte considers Fabbian an ideal backup for McTominay

Surely, Napoli appreciate Miretti, who has returned to Juventus after a one-season loan spell at Genoa, but Bianconeri and Partenopei are not yet in advanced talks for the Italian midfielder.

Fabbian is another profile that Conte genuinely likes, and sources with knowledge of the matter tell me that the Italian tactician sees the product of the Inter academy as the ideal backup for McTominay.

Talks between Napoli and Bologna not advanced yet

Napoli have already held preliminary talks with Bologna, but negotiations are not yet at an advanced stage.

Surely, Fabbian has to be monitored in the coming days as Conte feels his late runs would help Napoli in the final third, just as it happened with McTominay in 2024-25.

Fear for Bernardeschi knee injury during 3-2 friendly defeat https://football-italia.net/fear-bernardeschi-knee-injury-during-defeat/ https://football-italia.net/fear-bernardeschi-knee-injury-during-defeat/#respond Fri, 01 Aug 2025 19:56:55 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=906032

There are fears that new signing Federico Bernardeschi could be out for a while after sustaining a knee injury in today’s friendly match.

The former Toronto FC wide attacker had converted a penalty during the 3-2 defeat to Serie C side Vis Pesaro, but then limped off at the 55th minute.

What initially was thought to just be a knock might turn out to be more serious, as there are reports of potential ligament damage.

According to Sport Mediaset, Bernardeschi will undergo tests on Saturday to see the extent of the damage, but the mood in the medical staff is not thought to be positive.

It would be a heavy blow for the 31-year-old, who had been hoping to revitalise his career with the return to Serie A after three years in Major League Soccer.

He left Toronto FC when his contract was allowed to expire and joined Bologna as a free agent last month.

Heggem targeted by Bologna with 6.5m offer to West Bromwich Albion https://football-italia.net/heggem-targeted-by-bologna-with-6-5m-offer/ https://football-italia.net/heggem-targeted-by-bologna-with-6-5m-offer/#respond Fri, 01 Aug 2025 18:27:02 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=906017

Bologna have presented a formal offer worth €6.5m to sign West Bromwich Albion central defender Torbjorn Heggem, claim The Athletic, with two players on the way out.

It is reported the bid is an official one, making this a significant push to sign the 26-year-old.

The approach for the Norway international comes as Bologna are ready to part company with two defenders, as Jhon Lucumi is wanted by Sunderland, while Sky Sport Italia claim Martin Erlic is on the verge of a move to Midtjylland for €4m.

Heggem was one of the best performers for West Bromwich Albion in the Championship last season, making 45 appearances where he also managed to contribute one goal and two assists.

Any transfer would be a huge profit, considering he was signed from Brommapojkarna for just €600,000 in the summer of 2024.

He has seven senior caps for Norway and brings the kind of physicality that Bologna coach Vincenzo Italiano is looking for.

Bologna suffered a surprise pre-season friendly defeat to Serie C side Vis Pesaro today, losing 3-2 despite Federico Bernardeschi and Tommaso Pobega goals.

The Rossoblu are gearing up for the start of the new campaign, where they will participate in Serie A, the Europa League, and try to defend their Coppa Italia title.

There were several new players in action during today’s outing, including Martin Vitik from the start.

It took Pobega barely 60 seconds to open the scoring after his transfer from Milan, while former Toronto FC attacking winger Bernardeschi converted a penalty to make it 2-2.

However, Vis Pesaro emerged victorious with goals from Juan Ignacio Molina, Francesco Nicastro and Davide Pio Stabile.

Ciro Immobile, Riccardo Orsolini and transfer-listed Jhon Lucumi remained on the bench.

This is because the team will be back on the field tomorrow morning against Greek opponents Levadeiakos.

Michel Aebischer was not even on the bench pending an imminent move to Pisa.

Pisa close to snapping up deal for Bologna midfielder Aebischer https://football-italia.net/pisa-close-to-snapping-up-deal-for-aebischer/ https://football-italia.net/pisa-close-to-snapping-up-deal-for-aebischer/#respond Fri, 01 Aug 2025 16:50:46 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=905995

Michel Aebischer is on his way to becoming a new player for Pisa, which will bring his three-and-a-half year spell with Bologna to an end.

Aebischer on the verge of leaving Bologna for Pisa

As was initially reported in July, newly-promoted Pisa have made significant moves in an attempt to sign the 28-year-old, who is expected to leave Bologna this summer despite having another two years remaining on his contract, which runs until the summer of 2027.

The deal has progressed smoothly, and with no further twists or turns expected, Aebischer should become a new Pisa player in time for the start of the 2025-26 season.

The final details of the operation are now being finalised, and once that has happened, Aebischer will be announced as a new player for Pisa.

The 32-time Switzerland international will leave the Rossoblu after a solid three years, which included an historic qualification to the Champions League in at the end of the 2023-24 season, and the club’s first ever Coppa Italia win at the end of 2024-25.

Genoa line up two replacements if De Winter leaves for Inter or Bournemouth https://football-italia.net/two-options-if-de-winter-goes-inter-or-afcb/ https://football-italia.net/two-options-if-de-winter-goes-inter-or-afcb/#respond Fri, 01 Aug 2025 13:55:48 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=905950

Reports in Italy claim that Patrick Vieira and Genoa already have two ideal candidates in mind to replace Koni De Winter should he end up leaving for either Inter or AFC Bournemouth this window.

Reports over the last week confirm that Inter and Bournemouth are both interested in picking up former Juventus Next Gen centre-back De Winter in the event that one of their starting centre-halves decide to leave this window.

For Inter, there had been reports of a Premier League bid for Yann Bisseck, while Bournemouth could lose Illia Zabarnyi to Paris Saint-Germain, on top of the previous sale of Dean Huijsen to Real Madrid.

Who could replace De Winter at Genoa?

If De Winter is sold this summer, Genoa will also find themselves in need of a replacement.

According to reports from Calciomercato.com, Genoa’s first choice if De Winter leaves would be to sign 25-year-old Jay Idzes, who is expected to be available for transfer following Venezia’s relegation to Serie B at the end of the 2024-25 season.

The Indonesia international, who took part in 35 out of a possible 38 Serie A matches last season, is expected to be available for a fee in the region of €10m this summer.

Alternatively, Calciomercato suggests that Genoa could turn to Bologna centre-back Martin Erlic to replace De Winter this summer.

Bologna are not expected to stand in the Croatian’s way if an appropriate offer comes in, but his signing is seen as somewhat of a risk given the injury struggles that limited him to just eight top-flight appearances last season.

Okafor sale not guaranteed, but Milan have two demands after rejecting Bologna https://football-italia.net/okafor-sale-not-guaranteed-two-milan-demands/ https://football-italia.net/okafor-sale-not-guaranteed-two-milan-demands/#respond Fri, 01 Aug 2025 11:44:05 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=905918

Reports in Italy claim that Noah Okafor is not guaranteed to leave Milan this summer, but the Rossoneri have two clear demands for clubs who remain interested in a deal after turning down an offer from Bologna on Thursday.

Reports over the second half of the 2024-25 season claimed that Okafor is set to leave Milan this transfer window, after being sent out on loan to Napoli midway through the campaign, where he would play for just 36 minutes in Serie A.

However, having returned to Milan for pre-season training in July, Okafor has begun to impress with a couple of encouraging performances, including back-to-back braces in consecutive friendly wins over Liverpool (4-2) and Perth Glory (9-0) over the last week.

Okafor beginning to impress, Milan future uncertain either way

According to Calciomercato.com, it can not be ruled out that Okafor stays on with the Rossoneri this summer, despite various reports claiming that he is set to leave.

That said, Milan will still consider offers for the Switzerland international, despite turning down Bologna’s approach on Thursday.

If Okafor is to leave San Siro again this summer, Milan have made it clear that it will only be on a permanent deal, or on loan with an obligation to buy. A loan with an option to buy will not suffice.

Friday’s report also indicates that Milan have recently raised their asking price for Okafor, and that they are now seeking a fee in the region of €18m-€20m, up from the quote €12m-€15m price range that had been quoted by other outlets earlier this summer.

Bologna and Udinese interest in Miller ‘becoming more and more concrete’ https://football-italia.net/bologna-udinese-miller-interest-more-concrete/ https://football-italia.net/bologna-udinese-miller-interest-more-concrete/#respond Fri, 01 Aug 2025 10:11:44 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=905901

Motherwell head coach Jens Berthel Askou has admitted that sought-after teenager Lennon Miller has interest that is ‘becoming more and more concrete and specific’, following reports that Bologna and Udinese are keen on bringing the young midfielder to Serie A.

Lennon Miller interest from Bologna ‘more and more concrete’

As Football Italia reported in July, Bologna have been pushing to complete a deal for Miller, while Udinese have also retained an interest.

“A lot of things are going on and have been for a while, and the interest is increasing every day and every week for Lennon,” Motherwell head coach Askou said during his pre-match press conference on Thursday (via STV).

“There is extensive interest from a lot of places and it is becoming more and more concrete and specific,” he continued.

If Miller were to complete a move to the Dall’Ara this summer, he would join Scotland international teammate Lewis Ferguson, and would join compatriots Scott McTominay, Billy Gilmour, Che Adams and Josh Doig in the Italian top flight.

Motherwell, meanwhile, are due to play Rangers in their opening match of the 2025-26 Scottish Premiership season on Saturday.

Lennon has missed a portion of pre-season training with a minor injury, but there is still a possibility that the 18-year-old is still included in the matchday squad.

Bologna focus on Young Boys talents Ugrinic and Athekame https://football-italia.net/bologna-young-boys-talents-ugrinic-athekame/ https://football-italia.net/bologna-young-boys-talents-ugrinic-athekame/#respond Thu, 31 Jul 2025 20:46:39 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=905849

Bologna have set their sights on two different Young Boys players, as Sky Sport Italia report they are targeting both Filip Ugrinic and Zachary Athekame.

The Rossoblu won the Coppa Italia and will therefore compete in the Europa League this season, as well as Serie A and defending the cup.

According to Sky Sport Italia, they are looking to Switzerland for inspiration to strengthen their squad, above all towards the club Young Boys.

The primary target is midfielder Ugrinic, who is 26 years old and has three senior caps for Switzerland.

He scored three goals with five assists in 36 league appearances last season.

His contract only runs to June 2026, so Young Boys know that they have to sell or risk losing him as a free agent.

Another Bologna candidate in the same squad is right-back Athekame, who is seen as an alternative to first choice Alessandro Zanoli of Napoli.

Udinese have also been linked with the 20-year-old, who is a regular for Switzerland at Under-21 level with 10 caps.

Athekame only signed a new contract last month, so his deal with the Swiss club runs to June 2029.

Milan reject Okafor offer from Bologna, as Swiss striker starting to impress https://football-italia.net/milan-reject-okafor-offer-from-bologna-swiss/ https://football-italia.net/milan-reject-okafor-offer-from-bologna-swiss/#respond Thu, 31 Jul 2025 19:11:59 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=905837

There are reports that Milan turned down an offer from Bologna for Noah Okafor, as they are increasingly convinced he should be part of Max Allegri’s team.

The forward had spent the last six months on loan with Napoli, where he barely set foot on the field, making four appearances for a total of 36 minutes of football.

It was expected that he would be sold this summer, but the Rossoneri already rejected proposals from Besiktas and Flamengo.

Okafor will only leave Milan for the right terms

According to transfer pundit Daniele Longo, Milan received an offer from Bologna and turned it down today.

Much like the Besiktas bid, this would’ve been a paid loan with option to buy at the end of the season.

The change of heart with Okafor is both because they only want to accept a permanent transfer for circa €15-20m, but also that he is increasingly convincing to new coach Allegri.

The Switzerland international scored twice in today’s 9-0 friendly victory over Perth Glory, having also found the net in the 4-2 win against Liverpool.

Purchased from RB Salzburg in 2023 for €15.5m, his style was not necessarily suited to the other coaches, but might be a better fit with Allegri’s counter-attacking approach.

Bologna CEO Claudio Fenucci confirm the club want to extend Jhon Lucumí’s contract but reaching an agreement with the defender may not be ‘immediately feasible.’

Bologna want to extend Lucumí’s contract, as club CEO Fenucci said during a press conference before Federico Bernardeschi’s official unveiling in front of the media on Thursday.

“We are discussing, but as of today, it’s a matter that is not immediately feasible. If we can’t do it now, we’ll do it when the transfer window ends,” Fenucci said.

The Rossoblu directors added (via TMW) that Bologna had not planned to sell Sam Beukema and Dan Ndoye, who joined Napoli and Nottingham Forest, respectively.

“Our idea was to confirm all the players, but then we received two profitable offers,” said the Bologna director.

Nottingham Forest confirmed Ndoye’s transfer with an official statement on Thursday.

On the other hand, Forest’s Premier League rivals, Sunderland, have reportedly made an offer worth €25m for Lucumí, who only has 11 months left in his contract at the Stadio Dall’Ara.

The 27-year-old centre-back joined Bologna from Genk for just €8m in the summer of 2022 and has scored one goal in 109 appearances with the Rossoblu, winning a historic Coppa Italia in 2024-25.

Bologna will start the new 2025-26 Serie A season away at Roma on August 24.

Bernardeschi: ‘Serie A after MLS is like joining the NBA’ https://football-italia.net/bernardeschi-serie-a-after-mls-is-like-nba/ https://football-italia.net/bernardeschi-serie-a-after-mls-is-like-nba/#comments Thu, 31 Jul 2025 14:45:38 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=905779

Federico Bernardeschi admits he ‘missed’ Serie A football while at Toronto FC, uses an NBA analogy, and believes this move to Bologna can put him in the frame for Italy at the 2026 World Cup.

The attacking winger was a free agent after his contract with the MLS club was allowed to run down, putting pen to paper on a new deal with Bologna until 2027, with option to extend for a further season.

“I thank the club, directors and my agent who gave me the opportunity to return to Italy in an increasingly important club,” said Bernardeschi in his presentation press conference this afternoon.

“I am very proud to be a part of this squad and they gave me a really warm welcome. We are in three competitions and it is up to us to ensure the coach has everyone in form to choose from.”

Bologna won the Coppa Italia last season, beating Milan in the Final, and therefore qualified for the Europa League, having participated in the Champions League last term.

This is a return to Italian football for Bernardeschi, who had gone out to Major League Soccer in 2022 along with Lorenzo Insigne.

“I did miss Serie A, but I also would make that decision again. It was an experience I don’t regret, both for me and for my family. In physical terms, there’s no gap between MLS and Serie A, but undoubtedly there is on a technical and tactical level. It is frankly difficult to find a more tactically advanced league than Serie A in all of Europe. But MLS with Serie A is like comparing the EuroLega basketball competition to the NBA.”

At the age of 31, Bernardeschi has his sights on a sensational return to the Nazionale, especially if Italy qualify for the 2026 World Cup that will be played in the USA, Canada and Mexico.

Did he receive a call from new Italy coach Gennaro Gattuso?

“No, but considering I’ve been away from the Nazionale for five years, that’s understandable. I won the Euros, but never played in the World Cup. I want to do everything possible to be there.

“I haven’t played a full match for months, but I am in good shape and have to work hard to get up to speed. I’ll be honest, Canada was a lovely experience, but when I got back home at the end of the day, I was missing something. I feed on adrenaline and like a bit of pressure every day. I missed it.”

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Bologna’s 10% sell-on clause on Dan Ndoye can become a €5m check for the Rossoblu if the Swiss winger doesn’t leave Nottingham Forest by 2027.

Nottingham Forest confirmed the signing of Bologna winger Ndoye on Thursday.

According to several sources it’s a €40m deal plus €5m add-ons and a 10% sell-on clause.

As per Gazzetta, however, the sell-on clause will only be valid for two years as Bologna will receive €5m instead if Ndoye remains at Nottingham Forest for the next two years.

Ndoye’s permanent move to Forest means Premier League clubs have now spent €180m to sign players from Serie A this summer.

Nottingham Forest have officially announced the signing of Switzerland international Dan Ndoye on a permanent transfer from Serie A side Bologna, which goes down as one of the most profitable sales in Rossoblu history.

Ndoye has left Bologna for a reported fee of €40m plus up to €5m in bonuses, with a 10% sell-on clause also included in the deal.

The 24-year-old has put pen to paper on a five year contract, which will run until the summer of 2030.

“Nottingham Forest is delighted to confirm the signing of Dan Ndoye, who has signed a five-year deal,” a statement on the Nottingham Forest website read.

“The Swiss international arrives from Bologna, where he played 75 times for the Serie A side having joined in the summer of 2023. The 2024/25 season was a particularly successful year, with Ndoye scoring the only goal in the Coppa Italia final to earn Bologna’s first major trophy in over 50 years.

“The 24-year-old also played in all of the Italian side’s eight Champions League matches, featuring in 41 games across the season, scoring nine times. His impressive record last season was not just as a goal scorer, but as a creative playmaker. Ndoye registered 6 assists and his impressive ball carrying stats were bettered by only five players in Serie A in 2024/25.”

Ndoye leaves the Dall’Ara after two seasons in Italy, having joined from Basel for a fee slightly in excess of €10m in 2023. He joined around the same time as former Basel teammate and current Arsenal defender Riccardo Calafiori. The pair are now the club’s two most expensive departures of all time.

Two of Napoli’s most top five profitable sales have come this summer, with Sam Beukema also having left to join reigning Serie A champions Napoli in a €31m deal earlier this transfer window.

Napoli had also been linked with a move for the Forest recruit this summer, but decided against matching Forest’s offer of €40m plus up to €5m in bonuses. The Partenopei will instead turn to other candidates, amongst whom are Raheem Sterling, Federico Chiesa and Jack Grealish.

According to the report, Villarreal and Atletico Madrid are also interested in the 27-year-old, and Bologna have not ruled out a move despite the recent sales of Sam Beukema and Dan Ndoye.

Gazzetta adds that Bologna are monitoring Diogo Leite (Union Berlin), Yusuf Akçiçek (Fenerbahçe), Fali Candè (Venezia) and Fedde Leysen (Union Saint-Gilloise) as possible replacements for Lucumí.

As per Corriere dello Sport, however, Bologna are determined to offer their defender a contract extension, having already sold Beukema to Napoli.

The defending Coppa Italia winners have signed Martin Vitik to replace Beukema.

Elsewhere in defence, Bologna are close to reaching an agreement with Hamburger SV for Stefan Posch, who is expected to move to Germany for €5m after a six-month loan spell at Atalanta.

Bologna have already contacted Napoli for Alessandro Zanoli, who is the leading candidate to replace the departing Posch.

Were Napoli right to not match Nottingham Forest’s offer for Ndoye? https://football-italia.net/napoli-right-to-not-match-forest-for-ndoye/ https://football-italia.net/napoli-right-to-not-match-forest-for-ndoye/#respond Thu, 31 Jul 2025 09:54:52 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=905706

Bologna will seal one of the club’s most profitable sales ever once Dan Ndoye’s transfer to Nottingham Forest is announced, but Football Italia transfer expert Alfredo Pedullà suggests that Napoli, who had also been chasing the Switzerland international this summer, were right to not overpay for his services.

Forest and Bologna have an agreement in place over a deal that could potentially be worth around €45m with bonuses included, not forgetting a considerable sell-on clause that could see the total earnings from the Ndoye sale rise past the €50m mark.

While Ndoye has impressed with his performances during his two-year stay at the Dall’Ara, Pedullà suggests that his numbers in terms of goals and assists haven’t been earth-shattering and that Forest are paying for potential rather than for proven attacking returns.

Pedullà also suggests that if Ndoye is worth potentially €45m or even up to €50m, then Atalanta should potentially be seeking a fee in excess of €70m for somebody like Ademola Lookman, who provided 27 goal involvements from 40 appearances last season, and is instead being linked with a €50m move to Inter.

What Alfredo Pedullà says about Ndoye’s €45m Nottingham Forest move

In his weekly column (via CaughtOffside), Pedullà wrote: “Honestly, I appreciated that Napoli didn’t break the bank for Dan Ndoye. Let’s recognise that the forward is a good player, potentially a great one, but he’s not worth €40m/42m, reaching €45m with add-ons and a sell-on clause that could push the transfer package close to €50m.

“Nottingham Forest, like many English clubs, have no problem tossing in millions like it’s peanuts. Good for Bologna, credit to everyone involved in their transfer dealings because they know how to sell gold as if it were platinum and they set the terms without budging an inch. They’ve done with Zirkzee and Calafiori, as well as with Beukema, and they continue to highlight the ‘positive balance sheet’ line, a trademark that deserves credit.

“As for their strategy on incoming players, opinions may differ. Immobile might score goals, but I wouldn’t have brought back someone who left last summer supposedly for a ‘life choice’ (whatever that was), only to reverse it in just a few months. Italiano has the situation under control, we’ll see if he can repeat his success in the new season.

“I’d like to explain why Ndoye shouldn’t be worth well over €40m. If that were the case, Atalanta should ask €90m for Lookman, and Napoli should have gone close to €100m for Kvaratskhelia. I’ve always been told that the valuation logically follows performance: if you don’t reach double digits for goals and assists, you can’t expect to demand the moon. In England, they clearly don’t think that way, they often focus on the future, on potential rather than past results.

“Everyone is free to operate as they wish, but from my point of view, Bologna’s happiness matches Napoli’s peace of mind in not making an investment that, considering quality-output-price, could have turned out to be unpleasant.”
