The Stadio Tardini was the centre of attention today, with one player coming in and another going out.

Sohm headed for the exit and completed his €15m plus €1m in add-ons transfer to Fiorentina, with the Ducali keeping a cut of the future sale fee.

Meanwhile, Parma brought in central defender Ndiaye from Troyes, with an agreement believed to be worth €6.5m plus bonuses.

Elsewhere, Roma have sold Ola Solbakken to Nordsjaelland after a series of loan experiences, bringing in a fee of circa €1m.

Bologna also sold defender Martin Erlic to FC Mitdjylland, again in the Danish Super League, for a reported €5m.

Official: Sohm joins Fiorentina with Champions League ambition https://football-italia.net/official-sohm-join-fiorentina-champions-league/ https://football-italia.net/official-sohm-join-fiorentina-champions-league/#respond Mon, 04 Aug 2025 19:56:38 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=906375

Simon Sohm has officially completed his transfer from Parma to Fiorentina and assures his aim is to ‘qualify for the Champions League.’

The midfielder had his medical tests this morning after the clubs reached an agreement for the fee.

It is believed to have cost €15m plus a further €1m in add-ons, while Parma can retain a five per cent cut of any future sale.

The negotiations had been dragging on for the best part of a month and there was finally a breakthrough last week.

“It is a beautiful city, I really like the Viola Park complex too, so I am very happy,” he told the official club website.

“Serie A is a very strong league, I already experienced that last season. Now I want to take another step up and Fiorentina is a great club where I can grow. I want to help the team, and also grow individually.”

Sohm was rather lonely at the training ground in Florence, because the squad is already in England for their pre-season tour, where they were beaten in a friendly by Leicester City at the weekend.

“My idea is to qualify for the Champions League and tomorrow I’ll get to meet my new teammates.”

The Switzerland international had been at Parma since his €6.4m move from FC Zurich in October 2020.

That means he helped the Ducali to promotion from Serie B and then to remain in the top flight.

Last season, Sohm contributed four goals in 37 Serie A appearances for the club.

Fiorentina learn UEFA Conference League play-off opponents https://football-italia.net/fiorentina-conference-league-play-off-opponent/ https://football-italia.net/fiorentina-conference-league-play-off-opponent/#respond Mon, 04 Aug 2025 14:43:52 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=906307

Fiorentina have learned that their UEFA Conference League play-off opponents will be either FC Polissya or Paksi FC later this month.

The Viola are participating in the competition for the fourth season in a row, having twice reached the Final, then the semi-final last term.

Once again, they must go through the play-off round before reaching the competition proper.

That will be played over two legs on August 21 and August 28.

UEFA held the Conference League play-off draw today, which decided that Fiorentina will face either FC Polissya or Paksi FC.

Polissya are a club side from Ukraine and Paksi hail from Hungary.

The two teams will face off first in another two-legged preliminary tie, on August 7 and 14, deciding who will go through for the next stage.

Fiorentina have the first leg away from home on August 21 and the return at the Stadio Franchi on August 28.

However, the venue for that home leg might be moved due to on-going restructuring work.

Fiorentina emerged defeated 2-0 in a pre-season friendly against Leicester City, while Cremonese swept Pro Patria aside 3-0 in another test.

Stefano Pioli used an experimental starting XI at the King Power Stadium, where Leicester City were gearing up to kick off the Championship season next weekend.

Fabiano Parisi made a mistake to spark the move for the opening goal, where Bilal El Khannouss set up Jordan Ayew.

Issahaku Fatawu doubled their lead soon after, sprinting away from Parisi and Alessandro Bianco, cutting inside Pablo Mari to curl into the far corner.

After introducing many of the top players on the hour mark, the Viola did better, but Moise Kean and Albert Gudmundsson both went for the ball and collided on a Dodo pull-back.

Kean also saw penalty appeals rejected for potential handball.

Cremonese were also in action this afternoon, beating Pro Patria 3-0 with goals from Federico Bonazzoli, Federico Baschirotto and Tommaso Barbieri.

Simon Sohm will become a new Fiorentina player, as La Viola have everything in place with Parma and on personal terms with the one-cap Switzerland international.

As Football Italia reported earlier this week, Fiorentina have been pursuing a deal for Parma midfielder Sohm. Fiorentina’s interest dates back to July 7, but have reached a breakthrough after Parma agreed to drop their initial asking price for the 24-year-old.

Now, just shy of a month after Sohm was initially offered to the Viola, everything appears to be in place for his permanent transfer.

Done deal: Sohm all set for Fiorentina

Fiorentina are expected to pay a fee of €15m plus €1m in bonuses for the former Zurich midfielder, plus a 5% cut of any future profits.

Sohm himself  will sign a multi-year contract worth €1.2m per season in wages, plus bonuses.

The documents needed to formally complete the transfer are now being exchanged, and visits for medicals and contract signings are expected to take place within the next 48 hours.

Who will give Zaniolo another chance after flop Serie A return? https://football-italia.net/who-give-zaniolo-chance-flop-serie-a-return/ https://football-italia.net/who-give-zaniolo-chance-flop-serie-a-return/#comments Sat, 02 Aug 2025 12:01:39 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=906093

Nicolò Zaniolo has returned to Galatasaray after a disappointing loan spell in Serie A in 2024-25, but who will give him another chance this season?

Once regarded as one of the most exciting Italian talents out there, ex-Roma star Zaniolo is facing, perhaps, the most challenging moment of his career.

The versatile striker has returned to Galatasaray after a disappointing one-season loan spell in Serie A in 2024-25, when he played first for Atalanta and then for Fiorentina.

However, the 26-year-old failed to fulfil his potential in Bergamo and Florence, returning to Galatasaray, where he has a contract until June 2027.

Zaniolo wasted latest chance to shine in Serie A

Zaniolo scored three goals and provided as many assists in 36 appearances across all competitions last term, but was never a regular starter for either Atalanta or Fiorentina.

The Italian striker has resumed training with Galatasaray in recent days and was even praised by the coach of the Turkish giants.

“Zaniolo is a talented player and we want to observe him closely during this preparation period,” said Okan Buruk via TMW.

“He’s working well, and everything is going the right way. He sent positive signals in terms of discipline and understanding of the game in friendlies. He’s an important element for us.”

According to TMW, Villarreal, Oviedo, Sunderland, and PSV have recently expressed interest in Zaniolo, while Flamengo have also been linked with a move for the former Roma star.

Back in 2023, Zaniolo was involved in a betting investigation alongside other Italian players, most notably Sandro Tonali and Nicolò Fagioli. However, contrary to his compatriots, Zaniolo was not banned as he proved he didn’t place bets on football games, but only played online blackjack, which is not forbidden by federal rules.

One of the most talented and controversial players of his generation, Zaniolo contributed to Roma’s 2021-22 Conference League victory thanks to a goal in the Final against Feyenoord.

Where will Zaniolo play in 2025-26?

However, in the following January, the Giallorossi sold him to Galatasaray on a permanent €15m deal, having failed to reach an agreement over his contract extension.

Zaniolo made his senior Italy debut in 2019 and has scored two goals in 19 international appearances to date.

His Azzurri career will undoubtedly be tied to achievements and performances at a club level, which is why Zaniolo needs to secure regular playing time in the 2025-26 season, finally proving himself up to expectations, regardless of his next destination.

Whether he stays or Galatasaray or leaves again, Zaniolo knows that, being 26, he may not have many other opportunities to prove his worth. The big question is: Who will give him a new chance?

Beltran closer to Flamengo after promise to improve Fiorentina salary https://football-italia.net/beltran-close-flamengo-improve-fiorentina-wage/ https://football-italia.net/beltran-close-flamengo-improve-fiorentina-wage/#respond Fri, 01 Aug 2025 21:30:43 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=906045

Fiorentina striker Lucas Beltran is reportedly more inclined to accept the transfer to Flamengo for €12m plus add-ons after the Brazilians improved personal terms.

The two clubs had already shaken hands on the fee, which is believed to be worth €12m with another €3m in performance-related bonuses.

However, the player was unsure about the destination and had been stalling on the move, especially as Sassuolo and Galatasaray were also linked.

Beltran intrigued by new proposal

According to Sport Mediaset, negotiations between Flamengo and Beltran’s entourage have seen some progress over the last few hours.

They now believe that he is ready to leave Europe and accept the return to South America for his new club.

It would include an increased salary compared to the current wages he earns at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, both in the fixed sum, and performance-related bonuses for goals scored and trophies.

The 24-year-old Argentina international was a big investment for Fiorentina when he joined from River Plate in 2023 for €12.6m plus up to another €10-13m in add-ons.

Beltran amassed 98 competitive appearances for the Viola, scoring 16 goals and providing nine assists.

Free agents Calvert-Lewin and De Jong attract Fiorentina interest https://football-italia.net/free-agents-calvert-lewin-de-jong-fiorentina/ https://football-italia.net/free-agents-calvert-lewin-de-jong-fiorentina/#comments Fri, 01 Aug 2025 16:10:08 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=905979

Fiorentina are seeking an experienced striker to act as understudy to Moise Kean, reportedly targeting free agents Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Luuk de Jong.

The Viola were glad that Kean resisted interest from several clubs, including in the Premier League and Saudi Pro League, when his €52m release clause was still active.

Now that he has been locked down and is ready to sign a new contract, their focus turns to finding a suitable understudy for their star striker.

According to the Corriere dello Sport and Tuttomercatoweb, one of the names on their list is Calvert-Lewin, who is a free agent after his contract with Everton was allowed to run down.

He had already been linked with Fiorentina in December 2024.

The 28-year-old has a record of 57 goals and 18 assists in 239 Premier League games, along with four goals in 11 senior caps for England.

He found the net three times in 26 Premier League appearances last season.

Another even more experienced candidate is De Jong, whose contract with PSV Eindhoven expired over the summer.

The former Sevilla and Barcelona man will turn 35 this month and his fitness levels might need to be taken into consideration.

Fiorentina are competing in Serie A, the Coppa Italia and the Conference League this season.

Parma drop asking price as Fiorentina circle back for Sohm https://football-italia.net/parma-drop-sohm-price-fiorentina-circle-back/ https://football-italia.net/parma-drop-sohm-price-fiorentina-circle-back/#respond Fri, 01 Aug 2025 13:10:52 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=905934

Fiorentina remain interested in striking a deal for Parma midfielder Simon Sohm, and could potentially close a deal for a discounted price compared to the fee that they had been quoted at the start of the summer transfer window.

Fiorentina circle back for Parma midfielder Sohm

La  Viola had already made an approach for the one-time Switzerland international at the start of July, but the situation is now changing.

Football Italia understands that Parma have lowered their asking price from an initial fee of €20m plus add-ons. The feeling now is that a deal could potentially be closed for a fee in the region of €16m plus bonuses. At those terms, Fiorentina will be able to proceed.

VERONA, ITALY - MARCH 31: Simon Sohm of Parma calcio during the Serie A match between Verona and Parma at Stadio Marcantonio Bentegodi on March 31, 2025 in Verona, Italy. (Photo by Alessandro Sabattini/Getty Images)

It is possible that representatives from the two clubs sit down to discuss the deal in the near future, potentially within the coming hours, in an attempt to establish terms and settle on a final agreement.

Fiorentina had also looked at the possibility of bringing former Milan midfielder Frank Kessie back to Serie A after his recent experiences in the Saudi Pro League, but a deal for the Ivorian is complicated to pull off due to the extortionate salary that he earns with Al-Ahli.

Newly promoted Serie A side Pisa are in advanced talks over Fiorentina forward M’Bala Nzola, with the Viola open to discussing a loan deal with an option to buy.

Alberto Gilardino’s Pisa are in advanced talks with Fiorentina over Nzola, and the two clubs could find an agreement shortly.

Sources with direct knowledge of the matter tell me that Pisa and Fiorentina could shake hands over the weekend or by Tuesday next week.

Pisa and Fiorentina are currently discussing the final details in the deal as the Viola have accepted to let the 28-year-old striker leave on an initial loan deal with an option to buy.

Fiorentina set new conditions for Nzola’s transfer to Pisa

Fiorentina no longer expect a temporary deal with an obligation to buy, but are happy to send Nzola to Pisa for a €1 m loan fee and an option to buy for circa €5/6m.

Negotiations between the two clubs also concern the salary Pisa will cover during Nzola’s loan spell in 2025-26.

Lega Serie A announce new rule changes for postponed games https://football-italia.net/lega-serie-a-new-rule-changes-postponed-games/ https://football-italia.net/lega-serie-a-new-rule-changes-postponed-games/#respond Tue, 29 Jul 2025 15:26:40 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=905478

The Lega Serie A published the rule changes for the 2025-26 season for deciding what happens when matches are interrupted or postponed, aiming to play within 24 hours.

There were several situations last term where the games were delayed due to weather warnings or events, which saw the fixture list thrown into chaos with the difficulty of rearranging them.

Now the clubs have come together and approved a new set of rules to make the situation easier, or at the very least provide a little more clarity when they do occur.

Serie A rules for postponed fixtures

The Lega Serie A warns that games that were postponed before kick-off must start within the next 24 hours, unless there are exceptional circumstances such as the pitch still being unsuited to a football match, coinciding with the break for international duty, or games that are too close together.

In these cases, the Lega Serie A will dictate the rescheduling at the earliest available opportunity.

There must be at least two free days guaranteed between fixtures for both the teams involved.

When it comes to games that have been interrupted, the same Serie A rule applies as last season, namely that they pick up precisely where they left off.

If a match was stopped after 80 minutes, for example, then the teams will come back out to play the remaining 10 minutes plus stoppages.

Here too, the aim is to resume the day after it was interrupted.

There are some changes in the rules, as clubs can bring in up to three new players who were signed after the interruption, as long as they did not cross over from the other team involved in the match.

However, those who were sent off, substituted, or suspended for the original game cannot be brought back in.

Report: Sunderland and Nottingham Forest keen on Fiorentina defender Comuzzo https://football-italia.net/report-sunderland-nottingham-forest-comuzzo/ https://football-italia.net/report-sunderland-nottingham-forest-comuzzo/#respond Mon, 28 Jul 2025 14:31:57 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=905264

Premier League clubs Sunderland, Nottingham Forest and Manchester United are interested in signing Fiorentina centre-back Pietro Comuzzo, reports from Italy claim.

According to what has been reported by TuttoMercatoWeb, the English trio are all keen on the 20-year-old but there have been no concrete offers as of yet.

Earlier this month, new Fiorentina head coach Stefano Pioli praised the youngster, calling him a “strong player, who is here to compete for a place and be a starter.”

Breakthrough season for Comuzzo turns Premier League heads

Pietro Comuzzo had his breakthrough campaign in the 2024-25 season. The centre-back played 33 times for La Viola in Serie A, with another ten appearances in the Conference League.

In November, the 20-year-old was called up by Luciano Spalletti to the Italian national team for the Nations League fixtures against Belgium and France – although Comuzzo did not play in either match.

Now, despite appearing committed to Fiorentina, Premier League clubs are circling. If a suitable offer comes in, the Viola may be tempted to sell but the reports confirm that there is nothing concrete just yet.

Who are the Belgian players with the most Serie A appearances? https://football-italia.net/belgian-players-most-serie-a-appearances/ Sun, 27 Jul 2025 11:54:00 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=905153

Former Roma, Inter and Cagliari star Radja Nainggolan is the Belgian player with the most Serie A appearances, followed by Napoli legend Dries Mertens and ex-Fiorentina forward Luis Oliveira.

Kevin De Bruyne was the latest Belgian star to move to Italy this summer, completing a free move to Napoli from Manchester City, but many compatriots of the 34-year-old have graced the Italian league in recent years.

His contract with the Premier League giants expired in June, and Napoli beat competition from Saudi and MLS clubs to secure his signature.

“The main reason for me is that I wanted to play at the highest level, and I think that when the sporting director came to England and proposed what they’re doing and the project around it, it made me excited,” De Bruyne explained in his unveiling press conference.

“We looked at everything, and I thought this was the best place for me to be.

“I’ve been in the Premier League so long and in the end, I made the decision to go out of England, I’ve done what I’ve done and in the end I’m a Man City player for life and I think it was also the way that it ended for me, it’s time to find a new challenge.”

The connection between Italian and Belgian football grows stronger as the years pass, as clubs from the two countries often become involved in transfer negotiations.

One of the latest examples is Charles De Ketelaere, who struggled in his first season at Milan after a €38m move from Club Brugge but quickly became a key player at Atalanta, even winning the Europa League in the 2023-24 season.

The rise of Belgian talents in Italy justifies the growing interest in Serie A football in the northern European country, although it remains to be seen how the new gaming levies introduced in 2025 could impact fan entertainment budgets.

De Bruyne’s move to Serie A will likely bring exciting opportunities via Peppermillcasino as Napoli are not only defending their domestic champion status in 2025-26 but will also compete in the Champions League after missing out on Europe’s elite club competition last season.

As previously mentioned, De Bruyne is only the latest Belgian star moving to Italy’s top flight.

One of his most notable compatriots in the Peninsula is Nainggolan, who played for Roma, Cagliari, and Inter, accumulating 367 league appearances. The 37-year-old is the Belgian player with the most appearances in Serie A.

Nainggolan is followed by Mertens, the best scorer in Napoli‘s history, who collected 295 league games with the Partenopei.

Another striker, Luis Oliveira, spent several years in Serie A, playing for Cagliari, Fiorentina and Bologna and accumulating 257 league appearances.

Kean scores twice in Fiorentina friendly victory https://football-italia.net/kean-scores-twice-fiorentina-friendly-victory/ https://football-italia.net/kean-scores-twice-fiorentina-friendly-victory/#respond Fri, 25 Jul 2025 20:35:03 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=904985

Moise Kean scored both goals when Fiorentina beat Serie B side Carrarese in a pre-season friendly this evening.

This was the second match in two days for the Viola, as coach Stefano Pioli heavily rotated his squad to give everyone some time on the field.

Kean had been a late substitute in the 3-0 victory over Grosseto last night, but stepped into the starting XI this time around.

He made an immediate impact on their pre-season, as he was responsible for both goals in this 2-0 win over Carrarese.

It was again a 3-4-2-1 formation, this time with Cher Ndour and Jacopo Fazzini in support of the Italy international.

David De Gea also returned in goal after he was rested last night.

Kean hit the crossbar before opening the scoring on a Robin Gosens assist, then was ready to turn in on the rebound from an Ndour parried effort.

Abdelhamid Sabiri could’ve rounded out the scoreline, but clipped the upright.

Fiorentina striker Beltran subject of new 15m Flamengo offer https://football-italia.net/fiorentina-striker-beltran-15m-flamengo-offer/ https://football-italia.net/fiorentina-striker-beltran-15m-flamengo-offer/#respond Fri, 25 Jul 2025 18:48:07 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=904964

Flamengo are ready to pay €15m to sign Fiorentina forward Lucas Beltran after initial negotiations, according to reports in Argentina.

The striker was believed to be on the market this summer after the arrival of new coach Stefano Pioli and likely change of tactical system.

Now transfer pundits Cesar Luis Merlo and Raisa Simplicio claim that Flamengo have opened formal talks with Fiorentina for the player.

There could even have already been a starting bid worth €15m.

It probably will not be sufficient to get a sale over the line, as he was signed from River Plate in 2023 for €12.6m plus numerous add-ons.

Sassuolo had been mentioned as an option for Beltran this summer, along with Galatasaray and a return to River Plate.

He was already linked with River Plate going into the FIFA Club World Cup, but they couldn’t get it done in time to register for the tournament.

The Argentina international has made 98 competitive appearances for Fiorentina, where he scored 16 times and provided nine assists for his teammates.

Fiorentina friendly victory with Dzeko assists for 18-year-olds https://football-italia.net/fiorentina-friendly-victory-with-dzeko-assists/ https://football-italia.net/fiorentina-friendly-victory-with-dzeko-assists/#respond Thu, 24 Jul 2025 20:32:30 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=904817

Fiorentina beat Grosseto 3-0 in tonight’s pre-season friendly, as Edin Dzeko provided two assists for their young players.

The Viola were set out in a 3-4-1-2 formation by coach Stefano Pioli, with veteran Dzeko leading the attack.

Despite his status as a top scorer, the 39-year-old Bosnia and Herzegovina striker opted to be an assist man this evening.

Dzeko set up the opening two goals for both 18-year-olds Riccardo Braschi and Luca Montenegro.

The third was created and scored by Alessandro Bianco, who harassed Grosseto players into making a mistake and took full advantage.

There were also opportunities for Moise Kean in the second half, where he was supported by Lucas Beltran and Abdelhamid Sabiri, and Pablo Mari rattled the crossbar.

Okafor and Nzola targeted by Flamengo after Emerson Royal agreement https://football-italia.net/okafor-nzola-targeted-flamengo-emerson-royal/ https://football-italia.net/okafor-nzola-targeted-flamengo-emerson-royal/#respond Thu, 24 Jul 2025 19:52:07 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=904810

Emerson Royal should have his Flamengo medical on Saturday, but the Brazilians also reportedly want his Milan teammate Noah Okafor and Fiorentina striker M’Bala Nzola.

The full-back had been on the verge of a move to Besiktas when Flamengo suddenly dived in and agreed terms instead.

Now it is reported Emerson Royal will fly out tomorrow, to have his medical on Saturday, at which point they can give the all clear for Wesley to complete his €25m plus €5m add-ons move to Roma.

However, Sky Sport Italia report that Flamengo are not done with their Serie A shopping spree, because they are also looking at more signings.

Okafor and Nzola also on Flamengo wish list

Specifically, they are interested in Milan winger Okafor, who has just returned from a six-month loan at Napoli and has also been linked with Bologna and Besiktas.

It is suggested that the Switzerland international is by no means convinced he wants to take the next step of his career in Brazil.

Another potential target within Serie A for Flamengo is Nzola, who is owned by Fiorentina, but was on loan at RC Lens last season.

Gravina warning ‘problems’ for EURO 2032 host cities, ‘impossible’ UEFA standards https://football-italia.net/gravina-warning-problems-for-euro-2032-host/ https://football-italia.net/gravina-warning-problems-for-euro-2032-host/#respond Thu, 24 Jul 2025 14:23:45 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=904734

FIGC President Gabriele Gravina warns ‘there will be a few problems’ finding suitable Italian stadiums to co-host EURO 2032 with Turkey. ‘It is impossible for some to follow the standards requested by UEFA.’

The plan originally had been for Italy to host the tournament alone, but then it was decided to split the duties with Turkey so that the Peninsula would provide only five venues rather than 10.

Even that is proving extremely difficult, because the slow-moving Italian red tape means getting approval for restructuring or even the building of new arenas is dragging on beyond deadlines.

The Federation must hand over the list of five stadiums to UEFA by October 2026 and President Gravina launched a warning today.

“We got the feeling that there will be a few problems for some of the cities we had indicated to host EURO 2032, because there is resistance tied to environmental, logistical, territorial and availability situations, compared to those who are giving us great reassurance on the investment.

“It is also impossible for some to follow the standards requested by UEFA,” noted Gravina.

Even San Siro recently failed an inspection for the required UEFA standards to host games, quite apart from the on-going row over building a new stadium next to the existing Stadio Meazza.

Some other stadiums are up to code, for instance Turin, Rome and Bergamo, while others are progressing with work already being done.

“We breathed a sigh of relief for Florence, which completed the financing process, so we are happy to say that is a city that has the right characteristics to be among the candidates,” added Gravina.

“When it comes to Palermo, we had the clear sensation that the owners are ready to do something particularly impressive in terms of infrastructure.”

The comments come just before the Government tries to push through a law introducing the new role of stadium commissioner, who is meant to help smooth the process of getting approval for projects.

“We need the right balance between cutting down red tape, sensibility for the local population, and the availability of investment. We must remember investment doesn’t depend on the commissioner, but on the club owners.”
