Roma look at Lecce pair Krstovic and Pierotti if Dovbyk leaves https://football-italia.net/roma-lecce-krstovic-pierotti-dovbyk-leaves/ https://football-italia.net/roma-lecce-krstovic-pierotti-dovbyk-leaves/#respond Mon, 04 Aug 2025 15:01:36 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=906310

Roma are reportedly turning towards Lecce for reinforcements, looking to strikers Nikola Krstovic and Santiago Pierotti, especially if Artem Dovbyk leaves.

The Giallorossi are trying to transform their squad to suit the tactics of new coach Gian Piero Gasperini, which means a great deal of turnover in the current group.

Dovbyk is believed to be on the market after just one season in Serie A where he struggled to adapt, and the asking price would be around €30m.

According to Calciomercato.it, the primary target to replace him is Krstovic, who has in turn put Roma at the top of his own personal wish list.

The Montenegro international scored 11 goals with five assists in 37 Serie A appearances for Lecce last season and would cost circa €25m.

He has also been linked with Atalanta and Leeds United, but would prefer to come to the Stadio Olimpico.

Sky Sport Italia point out that Roma are also targeting another Lecce player, namely Pierotti.

The Argentine only arrived in January 2024 and found the net four times with two assists in 36 Serie A games last season.

The versatile 24-year-old can play in a variety of attacking roles, mainly down the right wing.

Genoa beat Villarreal 3-1 and lost to Real Oviedo on penalties in their friendly tournament, while Francesco Camarda was not enough for Lecce against the UAE national team.

The pre-season friendlies continue and Genoa were in action for two mini-matches today as part of a three-way tournament in Oviedo.

They brushed Villarreal aside 3-1 in the first game, including a truly odd goal from Brooke Norton-Cuffy, who charged down a clearance that ricocheted into the net with the goalkeeper off his line.

Willy Kambwala scored the equaliser for Villarreal, but Vitinha and new signing Albert Gronbaek rounded out the scoreline.

The Grifone played the second mini-game as a 0-0 draw with hosts Real Oviedo, losing on penalties.

Lecce suffered a 3-1 defeat to the United Arab Emirates national team in their pre-season training camp.

Teenage centre-forward Camarda continues to impress during his loan from Milan, converting a penalty, but Kialonda Gaspar’s foul allowed Alghassani to score from the spot.

Lucas Caio turned in for 2-0 and in the second half Bruno De Oliveira completed the 3-1 result.

Report Geubbels targeted by Lecce with €5.5m offer https://football-italia.net/report-geubbels-targeted-lecce-with-5-5m-offer/ https://football-italia.net/report-geubbels-targeted-lecce-with-5-5m-offer/#respond Thu, 31 Jul 2025 18:42:09 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=905826

According to reports in France, Lecce have made an offer worth €5.5m to sign St. Gallen striker Willem Geubbels.

The versatile forward turns 24 next month and can play as a centre-forward, on the right or left of a trident attack.

This means he could be used alongside new signing Francesco Camarda, who is on loan from Milan.

Footmercato claim that Lecce are the favourites to sign Geubbels and have put forward a proposal that is over €5m.

He has been linked with several other Serie A sides, including Udinese, Parma and Hellas Verona, but Lecce appear to be very determined.

A product of the Olympique Lyonnais youth academy, he was sold to AS Monaco in 2018 for €20m.

However, his career rather petered out due to injuries, followed by the loan to FC Nantes and eventual free transfer to St. Gallen in January 2023.

Geubbels scored 28 goals in 93 games for the Swiss team, along with eight assists.

A fresh new talent coming to Serie A is Zakaria Aboukhlal, who arrives on a permanent transfer from Toulouse FC in a deal worth €8m plus €2m in add-ons.

The Morocco international will not be taking up a non-EU slot in the squad, because he also has a Dutch passport.

Sassuolo made a surprising splash on the transfer market by securing Ismael Koné from Olympique Marseille.

It is a loan deal worth €2.5m with option to buy for a further €10m, becoming an obligation if they maintain their Serie A status at the end of the season.

Marseille are also expected to retain a cut of the sell-on fee for the Canada international.

Another Canadian on the move is Tajon Buchanan, but he has left Inter for the permanent transfer to Villarreal at a cost of circa €9m plus a 20 per cent cut of the sell-on fee.

Cremonese achieved a double swoop with Lecce captain Federico Baschirotto arriving for €3m, while Alessio Zerbin is on loan from Napoli with obligation to buy in case of Serie A safety for €2m plus €1m add-ons.

Lega Serie A announce new rule changes for postponed games https://football-italia.net/lega-serie-a-new-rule-changes-postponed-games/ https://football-italia.net/lega-serie-a-new-rule-changes-postponed-games/#respond Tue, 29 Jul 2025 15:26:40 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=905478

The Lega Serie A published the rule changes for the 2025-26 season for deciding what happens when matches are interrupted or postponed, aiming to play within 24 hours.

There were several situations last term where the games were delayed due to weather warnings or events, which saw the fixture list thrown into chaos with the difficulty of rearranging them.

Now the clubs have come together and approved a new set of rules to make the situation easier, or at the very least provide a little more clarity when they do occur.

Serie A rules for postponed fixtures

The Lega Serie A warns that games that were postponed before kick-off must start within the next 24 hours, unless there are exceptional circumstances such as the pitch still being unsuited to a football match, coinciding with the break for international duty, or games that are too close together.

In these cases, the Lega Serie A will dictate the rescheduling at the earliest available opportunity.

There must be at least two free days guaranteed between fixtures for both the teams involved.

When it comes to games that have been interrupted, the same Serie A rule applies as last season, namely that they pick up precisely where they left off.

If a match was stopped after 80 minutes, for example, then the teams will come back out to play the remaining 10 minutes plus stoppages.

Here too, the aim is to resume the day after it was interrupted.

There are some changes in the rules, as clubs can bring in up to three new players who were signed after the interruption, as long as they did not cross over from the other team involved in the match.

However, those who were sent off, substituted, or suspended for the original game cannot be brought back in.

Cremonese have officially signed two new players today, bringing back Federico Baschirotto from Lecce and securing Alessio Zerbin from Napoli.

They were the last club to secure their place in Serie A for this season, earning promotion via the play-offs to join Sassuolo and Pisa in stepping up from Serie B.

This is a very special move for Baschirotto, who came up through their youth academy and left in 2021, then made his impact in Serie A in 2022 with Lecce.

After 112 Serie A appearances for the Salentini, where he also became their captain, he opted for a return to where it all began in Cremona.

This is a permanent transfer, reported to be worth circa €3m.

As for Napoli winger Zerbin, it is a loan with obligation to buy at the end of the season if certain conditions are met.

The 26-year-old made the loan move for €250,000, while Cremonese are set to pay €2m plus €1m in add-ons if they manage to secure their Serie A status.

This one had been in the works for a very long time, as negotiations dragged on for weeks before Roma finally managed to get an agreement in place with Flamengo for the wing-back.

The eventual cost of the operation should be a €25m fixed fee, plus €5m in various add-ons.

They also had to wait until Flamengo had successfully found a replacement, who also came from Serie A in the form of Milan’s Emerson Royal for €9m.

Milan also sent striker Colombo to Genoa on loan with an obligation to buy at the end of the season if certain conditions are met.

It is reported the conditions are as simple as the Grifone remaining in Serie A, while the cost should come out at €10m.

Another loan with option to buy saw Alieu Fadera move from Como to Sassuolo, although his parent club did retain a counter-option to bring him back to base next summer.

Serie A newcomers Cremonese are close to two big signings, as they reportedly strike a €3m deal with Lecce for Federico Baschirotto and beat Pisa to Napoli’s Alessio Zerbin.

According to Pianeta Lecce and Sky Sport Italia, the side that earned promotion via the play-offs has secured Baschirotto for the new season.

The muscular central defender, who can also play as a right-back, turns 29 in September and has been at Lecce since 2022.

This would represent a return for him, as he started his career in the Cremonese youth academy, playing for the senior squad until his free transfer to Viterbese in 2019.

The cost of the operation is believed to be around €3m for a player with 112 Serie A appearances under his belt, scoring five goals and providing two assists.

Meanwhile, Cremonese are also reportedly close to Napoli attacking winger Zerbin, as Sky Sport Italia claim talks with Pisa over personal terms broke down.

It is expected to be a loan with obligation to buy in case of Serie A safety for €3.5m.

The 26-year-old spent the last six months on loan at Venezia, having previously played with Monza, Frosinone, Pro Vercelli, Cesena and Viterbese.

Product of Milan academy, Camarda is already shining at Lecce, having already netted four goals in two pre-season friendlies with the Giallorossi.

The promising Italian forward netted his fourth goal of the pre-season in a 2-1 win over Spezia on Sunday.

“He has a great desire, and he has never missed a training session,” new Lecce coach Di Francesco said via Calciomercato.com.

Camarda joined Lecce on loan with an option to buy from Milan, but the Rossoneri retain an option to re-sign the Italian forward.

He can then meet up with the squad in their Bressanone pre-season training camp.

Ndaba plays primarily as a left-back, but can also work in central defence, in a more advanced role down the left flank or even in central midfield if required.

Formerly of Ipswich Town, Chelmsford, Ayr United, Burton Albion, Salford, Fleetwood and of course Kilmarnock, last season he made 38 competitive appearances for his club, contributing one goal and one assist.

The situation is moving rapidly, as Football Insider only confirmed today that Kilmarnock had accepted and offer and he would start talks for personal terms.

Reports in Italy indicate that Milan will pay a series of bonuses related to goals and appearances made that teenager Francesco Camarda makes during his loan spell with Lecce in 2025-26.

The 17-year-old centre-forward joined Lecce on loan with an option to buy for a reported fee of €3m, with a buy-back option in favour of Milan for a fee of €4m also included in the deal.

The Rossoneri wonderkid said that he was looking forward to his loan as he feels ‘treated like a professional’ at Lecce, and that they are not overly concerned by his age.

Serie A newcomers Cremonese are bringing in Giuseppe Pezzella and Alberto Grassi, but could also get another former Empoli player in the form of Youssef Maleh from Lecce.

They were the last club to book their spot in the top flight for the 2025-26 campaign, having gone through the play-offs to join Sassuolo and Pisa in the 20-team division.

Under new coach Davide Nicola, the Grigiorossi are working to consolidate their squad with more experience this summer.

They particularly seem to be focused on the former Empoli players who were relegated last term.

As we had already exclusively confirmed, Grassi was given the all-clear for a permanent transfer, which was completed at the weekend.

Pezzella is next in line, as the left-back will have his medical tests tomorrow for another sale.

Up on the horizon is Maleh, who spent the last two seasons on loan at Lecce, returning to the Stadio Via del Mare this summer.

The negotiations for the midfielder are going to take a little longer to finalise, but they are well on the way to an agreement for the player who turns 27 next month.

Three strikers aiming for Italy call-up after summer transfers https://football-italia.net/three-strikers-italy-call-up-summer-transfers/ https://football-italia.net/three-strikers-italy-call-up-summer-transfers/#comments Tue, 22 Jul 2025 13:44:02 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=904376

Several Italian strikers have already completed moves in the 2025 summer transfer window and will be aiming for a spot in the Azzurri squad this season.

Italy are desperate for goals and points in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers to qualify for the competition for the first time in ten years.

It is no secret that the Azzurri have been looking for prolific goal scorers over the last decade, and the new season will surely offer intriguing chances to those aiming for an international breakthrough.

Football Italia looks to three strikers who will be aiming for a national team call-up after their summer transfers.

Lorenzo Lucca – Napoli

The 24-year-old has joined Napoli from Udinese on an initial loan deal with an option to buy. Scorer of 12 goals in 33 Serie A appearances in Friuli last term, Lucca is not a new face in the Azzurri squad, having already made five appearances under Gennaro Gattuso’s predecessor Luciano Spalletti. Lucca has yet to score his first international goal, and although he may not be an immediate starter at the Stadio Maradona, competition with Romelu Lukaku and training sessions under Antonio Conte will surely help his development, offering him a genuine chance to battle Moise Kean and Mateo Retegui for a starting spot.

Francesco Camarda – Lecce

The promising striker, 17, has joined Lecce from Milan on loan with an option to buy and a buy-back option for the Rossoneri. Camarda is the youngest Serie A debutant and became the youngest Italian debutant in the Champions League last season. He has yet to score his first Serie A goal, but is widely regarded as one of the most promising Italian strikers. His move to the Stadio Via Del Mare will offer him a chance to play at a senior level more regularly than at Milan, but it remains to be seen whether he’ll need to make a step into the Italy U21 squad before joining the senior Azzurri team after netting six goals in 10 appearances at a U19 level.

Francesco Pio Esposito – Inter

Yet again, Esposito can’t be considered an immediate starter at Inter, but his performances in the Club World Cup, including a goal against River Plate in the group phase, convinced the Nerazzurri to keep him at the club after a two-season loan spell at Spezia in Serie B, where he scored 22 goals in 79 appearances. The 20-year-old has already scored seven goals in 11 appearances with the U21 Azzurri squad and will be aiming for the next step at an international level this season.

Don’t forget about Gianluca Scamacca, the starting Italy striker at the Euros just one year ago, who missed the entirety of the 2024-25 season due to a knee injury. The ex-West Ham forward is ready to return to action for La Dea. Although he’s not a new signing for La Dea, Retegui’s move to Al-Qadsiah has left him with less competition for a starting spot in Bergamo. Will it be enough to become a key player under Gattuso?

Empoli left-back Cacace on verge of Wrexham transfer https://football-italia.net/empoli-left-back-cacace-verge-wrexham-transfer/ https://football-italia.net/empoli-left-back-cacace-verge-wrexham-transfer/#respond Fri, 18 Jul 2025 19:42:07 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=903961

After links with Lecce, Cremonese and Pisa, Wrexham confirm they are close to signing Empoli defender Liberato Cacace.

The 24-year-old is a New Zealand international of obvious Italian origins who has been at Empoli since leaving VV Sint-Truiden in January 2022.

His departure seemed likely after relegation to Serie B and the fact his contract only runs to June 2026.

Numerous clubs were mentioned as options for the left-back, including current top flight Italian sides Lecce, Cremonese and Pisa.

However, The Athletic report that Wrexham are on the verge of making a deal worth a club record €2.5m.

“Libby is a player we have looked at,” Wrexham coach Phil Parkinson told reporters ahead of a pre-season friendly against New Zealand’s Wellington Phoenix.

“It isn’t finalised, as of yet. But I have spoken to Libby and love his character and personality. If we can get the signing completed, he is a player who will fit in with the culture we have created at Wrexham.”

Cacace has 86 Serie A appearances under his belt, where he scored two goals and provided five assists.

As for Wrexham, the club is famous for climbing up the divisions to the Championship after seeing their experience covered extensively in a reality show.

They are also owned by Hollywood figures Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

Camarda: ‘Lecce treat me like a professional player’ after Milan cameos https://football-italia.net/camarda-lecce-treat-me-professional-player/ https://football-italia.net/camarda-lecce-treat-me-professional-player/#comments Tue, 15 Jul 2025 15:09:31 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=903422

Francesco Camarda admits he chose the Lecce loan because they ‘treat me like a professional football player’ and don’t look at his age, after limited opportunities at Milan.

The striker made history as the youngest ever player to make his debut in Serie A, aged just 15 years, eight months and 15 days back in November 2023.

After making 12 Serie A appearances and four in the Champions League, it was decided he would go out on loan to get more regular playing time and aid his development.

Chance for teenager Camarda to shine

“I am a Number 9, so being in the box is my wheelhouse, but I am working to improve outside the penalty area too,” said Camarda in his presentation press conference for new club Lecce.

“I want to make the most of the opportunities that I am given. The club put a lot of faith in me and I want to repay that. My future depends on the present, so I am concentrated on improving myself, working for the team and achieving our objective.”

Camarda is still only 17 years of age, so it is unusual in Italian football to see one so young given any chances to play in Serie A.

“At Lecce, they treat me like a professional football player, which is what I am. Maybe some of the others my age don’t get to show their quality because they don’t get that opportunity. Personally, I am at Lecce to get that chance, as they know how to work with youth here and their squad is on average the youngest in Serie A.”

He will be helped in this transition by the fact his parents are following him to live in Lecce for this year.

By a curious twist of fate, his first Serie A home fixture for Lecce could well be against his former Milan teammates.

“I will give 100 per cent to win, especially as it is the first match in front of our home fans. Milan is a second home for me, but right now I have to think about the present and Lecce.”

Camarda had thought he’d scored his debut Champions League goal, only to see it disallowed by VAR.

“That night was unforgettable. I am sad the goal was disallowed, but it gave me the push to always want more.”

Lecce snap up Chile Under-20 talent Perez https://football-italia.net/lecce-snap-up-chile-under-20-talent-perez/ https://football-italia.net/lecce-snap-up-chile-under-20-talent-perez/#respond Fri, 11 Jul 2025 21:14:33 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=902926

Lecce are reportedly on the verge of securing a promising new right-back from Chile, paying €500,000 for Matias Perez from Curicó Unido.

Multiple sources including Sky Sport Italia, Tuttomercatoweb and Sportitalia all confirm the deal is close to completion.

He only turned 20 in April and is a regular in the Chile Under-20 squad.

A product of the Curicó Unido youth academy, Perez was promoted to the senior squad in January 2024, already amassing 17 appearances in Liga de Ascenso.

Lecce and their director of sport Pantaleo Corvino are well known for their scouting network, able to identify impressive young talents who then are sold on for huge profits.

Perez could be the latest addition to that long list of names launched by Corvino at the Stadio Via del Mare.

Meanwhile, the Salentini already signed 17-year-old Milan striker Francesco Camarda on loan and hope to give him regular Serie A playing time.
