Pisa interested in Belotti after Benfica loan experience https://football-italia.net/pisa-interested-in-belotti-after-benfica-loan/ https://football-italia.net/pisa-interested-in-belotti-after-benfica-loan/#respond Sun, 03 Aug 2025 14:03:14 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=906188

Andrea Belotti is still on the books for Como after a loan experience at Benfica, but looking for a new adventure including Pisa or Serie B clubs.

The 31-year-old made the transfer from Roma to Como for €4.5m in 2024 and was loaned to Benfica six months later.

He made relatively little impact, with four goals and one assist in 24 competitive games for the Portuguese side, including two appearances in the FIFA Club World Cup.

His contract with Como runs to June 2026, so but the veteran striker is not part of their plans under Cesc Fabregas.

According to Calciomercato.com, the most likely next destination for Il Gallo is Pisa, who just earned promotion from Serie B and will be coached by Alberto Gilardino.

There are initial negotiations taking place, although so far there is no agreement.

Other options that could give Belotti more regular playing time would be in Serie B, with several clubs showing an interest.

The former Palermo, Torino and Fiorentina centre-forward scored 114 goals in 348 Serie A appearances, along with 32 assists.

Cuadrado: ‘Pisa chance for World Cup dream with Colombia’ in 2026 https://football-italia.net/cuadrado-pisa-chance-world-cup-dream-colombia/ https://football-italia.net/cuadrado-pisa-chance-world-cup-dream-colombia/#respond Sun, 03 Aug 2025 13:07:10 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=906178

Juan Cuadrado explains why he decided to sign for newly-promoted Serie A side Pisa, insisting he has a ‘dream of battling for a place at the World Cup’ with Colombia.

The veteran was a free agent after his contract with Atalanta was allowed to expire on June 30 and he had several proposals, but decided to remain in Serie A.

He spoke to Sky Sport Italia this afternoon as he arrived for the medical tests, preparing to sign a one-year deal.

Cuadrado explains Pisa decision

“I am ready for this great challenge, I am excited to continue my career in a country that is basically home,” Cuadrado told Sky Sport Italia.

The 37-year-old will be working with coach Alberto Gilardino, and joined by Bologna midfielder Michel Aebischer, who is joining on loan with an obligation to buy.

Although he made 32 competitive appearances for Atalanta last season, only nine of those were from the start.

“I spoke to the club, the coach, I also have the dream of battling for a place at the World Cup. I hope to get to play more regularly, they convinced me, and I said yes straight away,” continued Cuadrado.

“I feel very good, very strong, I think the coach and staff will help me reach my peak. When I am 100 per cent fit, I can still give a lot to this team.”

His former clubs include Lecce, Fiorentina, Udinese, Chelsea, Juventus and Inter, amassing 395 Serie A career appearances, with 43 goals and 69 assists.

Former Juventus, Chelsea and Inter winger Juan Cuadrado is on the verge of joining newly-promoted Serie A side Pisa.

According to what has been reported by SkySport, via FirenzeViola, Cuadrado is expected in Pisa tomorrow to finalise a deal and take his medical tests.

The former Juventus man will sign for Pisa on a free transfer, with his contract at Atalanta having expired last month after just one year. In his time at Atalanta, the Colombian played 32 times in all competitions.

Pisa hope Cuadrado will assist survival push

Pisa arrive in Serie A with one, very simple, mission: to not get relegated. As with all freshly promoted sides, the challenge is difficult. Therefore, the Tuscan club are hoping adding experienced players like Cuadrado to their team will give them a huge boost.

Cuadrado is not the only signing that looks set to be finalised this week, however, with Bologna’s Michel Aebischer set to join Pisa on loan with an obligation to buy.

Michel Aebischer is on his way to becoming a new player for Pisa, which will bring his three-and-a-half year spell with Bologna to an end.

Aebischer on the verge of leaving Bologna for Pisa

As was initially reported in July, newly-promoted Pisa have made significant moves in an attempt to sign the 28-year-old, who is expected to leave Bologna this summer despite having another two years remaining on his contract, which runs until the summer of 2027.

The deal has progressed smoothly, and with no further twists or turns expected, Aebischer should become a new Pisa player in time for the start of the 2025-26 season.

The final details of the operation are now being finalised, and once that has happened, Aebischer will be announced as a new player for Pisa.

The 32-time Switzerland international will leave the Rossoblu after a solid three years, which included an historic qualification to the Champions League in at the end of the 2023-24 season, and the club’s first ever Coppa Italia win at the end of 2024-25.

Pisa in advanced talks to sign Nzola from Fiorentina: agreement close https://football-italia.net/pisa-advanced-talks-sign-nzola-from-fiorentina/ https://football-italia.net/pisa-advanced-talks-sign-nzola-from-fiorentina/#respond Fri, 01 Aug 2025 13:10:14 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=905932

Newly promoted Serie A side Pisa are in advanced talks over Fiorentina forward M’Bala Nzola, with the Viola open to discussing a loan deal with an option to buy.

Alberto Gilardino’s Pisa are in advanced talks with Fiorentina over Nzola, and the two clubs could find an agreement shortly.

Sources with direct knowledge of the matter tell me that Pisa and Fiorentina could shake hands over the weekend or by Tuesday next week.

Pisa and Fiorentina are currently discussing the final details in the deal as the Viola have accepted to let the 28-year-old striker leave on an initial loan deal with an option to buy.

Fiorentina set new conditions for Nzola’s transfer to Pisa

Fiorentina no longer expect a temporary deal with an obligation to buy, but are happy to send Nzola to Pisa for a €1 m loan fee and an option to buy for circa €5/6m.

Negotiations between the two clubs also concern the salary Pisa will cover during Nzola’s loan spell in 2025-26.

Surprise at Cuadrado agreement with Pisa as free agent https://football-italia.net/surprise-at-cuadrado-agreement-with-pisa-free/ https://football-italia.net/surprise-at-cuadrado-agreement-with-pisa-free/#respond Thu, 31 Jul 2025 17:09:58 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=905815

In a genuine surprise, former Juventus, Inter and Atalanta winger Juan Cuadrado has reportedly agreed to join Serie A newcomers Pisa as a free agent.

According to Sky Sport Italia transfer pundit Gianluca Di Marzio, the Colombia international has accepted terms for a one-year contract.

He turned 37 in May and will therefore be reaching the age of 38 when the season comes to a close.

Valencia had also been interested, but the player wanted to continue his career in Serie A.

Cuadrado a surprising new arrival for Pisa

Pisa earned promotion by finishing second in Serie B behind Sassuolo last term and are now under the guidance of coach Alberto Gilardino.

The wide forward was a free agent after his one-year contract with Atalanta was allowed to expire in June.

Cuadrado has been in Italian football since leaving Independiente Medellin for Udinese in 2009.

Going on to represent Lecce, Fiorentina, Chelsea and Juventus, he moved to Inter for free in 2023 and contributed to their Scudetto victory.

He then joined Atalanta for free and somewhat struggled for regular playing time with La Dea.

In his career, Cuadrado has amassed 395 Serie A appearances, scoring 43 goals and contributing 69 assists.

There were also 67 Champions League matches, 19 in the Europa League and 36 in the Coppa Italia.

A fresh new talent coming to Serie A is Zakaria Aboukhlal, who arrives on a permanent transfer from Toulouse FC in a deal worth €8m plus €2m in add-ons.

The Morocco international will not be taking up a non-EU slot in the squad, because he also has a Dutch passport.

Sassuolo made a surprising splash on the transfer market by securing Ismael Koné from Olympique Marseille.

It is a loan deal worth €2.5m with option to buy for a further €10m, becoming an obligation if they maintain their Serie A status at the end of the season.

Marseille are also expected to retain a cut of the sell-on fee for the Canada international.

Another Canadian on the move is Tajon Buchanan, but he has left Inter for the permanent transfer to Villarreal at a cost of circa €9m plus a 20 per cent cut of the sell-on fee.

Cremonese achieved a double swoop with Lecce captain Federico Baschirotto arriving for €3m, while Alessio Zerbin is on loan from Napoli with obligation to buy in case of Serie A safety for €2m plus €1m add-ons.

Lega Serie A announce new rule changes for postponed games https://football-italia.net/lega-serie-a-new-rule-changes-postponed-games/ https://football-italia.net/lega-serie-a-new-rule-changes-postponed-games/#respond Tue, 29 Jul 2025 15:26:40 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=905478

The Lega Serie A published the rule changes for the 2025-26 season for deciding what happens when matches are interrupted or postponed, aiming to play within 24 hours.

There were several situations last term where the games were delayed due to weather warnings or events, which saw the fixture list thrown into chaos with the difficulty of rearranging them.

Now the clubs have come together and approved a new set of rules to make the situation easier, or at the very least provide a little more clarity when they do occur.

Serie A rules for postponed fixtures

The Lega Serie A warns that games that were postponed before kick-off must start within the next 24 hours, unless there are exceptional circumstances such as the pitch still being unsuited to a football match, coinciding with the break for international duty, or games that are too close together.

In these cases, the Lega Serie A will dictate the rescheduling at the earliest available opportunity.

There must be at least two free days guaranteed between fixtures for both the teams involved.

When it comes to games that have been interrupted, the same Serie A rule applies as last season, namely that they pick up precisely where they left off.

If a match was stopped after 80 minutes, for example, then the teams will come back out to play the remaining 10 minutes plus stoppages.

Here too, the aim is to resume the day after it was interrupted.

There are some changes in the rules, as clubs can bring in up to three new players who were signed after the interruption, as long as they did not cross over from the other team involved in the match.

However, those who were sent off, substituted, or suspended for the original game cannot be brought back in.

This one had been in the works for a very long time, as negotiations dragged on for weeks before Roma finally managed to get an agreement in place with Flamengo for the wing-back.

The eventual cost of the operation should be a €25m fixed fee, plus €5m in various add-ons.

They also had to wait until Flamengo had successfully found a replacement, who also came from Serie A in the form of Milan’s Emerson Royal for €9m.

Milan also sent striker Colombo to Genoa on loan with an obligation to buy at the end of the season if certain conditions are met.

It is reported the conditions are as simple as the Grifone remaining in Serie A, while the cost should come out at €10m.

Another loan with option to buy saw Alieu Fadera move from Como to Sassuolo, although his parent club did retain a counter-option to bring him back to base next summer.

Serie A newcomers Cremonese are close to two big signings, as they reportedly strike a €3m deal with Lecce for Federico Baschirotto and beat Pisa to Napoli’s Alessio Zerbin.

According to Pianeta Lecce and Sky Sport Italia, the side that earned promotion via the play-offs has secured Baschirotto for the new season.

The muscular central defender, who can also play as a right-back, turns 29 in September and has been at Lecce since 2022.

This would represent a return for him, as he started his career in the Cremonese youth academy, playing for the senior squad until his free transfer to Viterbese in 2019.

The cost of the operation is believed to be around €3m for a player with 112 Serie A appearances under his belt, scoring five goals and providing two assists.

Meanwhile, Cremonese are also reportedly close to Napoli attacking winger Zerbin, as Sky Sport Italia claim talks with Pisa over personal terms broke down.

It is expected to be a loan with obligation to buy in case of Serie A safety for €3.5m.

The 26-year-old spent the last six months on loan at Venezia, having previously played with Monza, Frosinone, Pro Vercelli, Cesena and Viterbese.

Pol Lirola could be making a return to Serie A, according to Footmercato, with Pisa, Udinese, Genoa and Parma tracking the Olympique Marseille full-back.

The Spaniard turns 28 next month and is certainly no stranger to Italian football, having made 153 Serie A appearances, during which he scored four goals and provided 15 assists.

He first came to Italy with the Juventus youth academy in 2015 and went on to also feature for Sassuolo, Fiorentina and Frosinone.

Fiorentina sold Lirola to Olympique Marseille in 2021 for €13.5m, but he failed to make an impact, being sent out on loan spells to Elche and Frosinone.

According to Footmercato, the right-back is heading back to Serie A and the asking price is believed to be €5-6m, considering his contract expires in June 2026.

Pisa would seem to be the most interested club, but others keeping an ee on the situation are Genoa, Udinese and Parma.

There had already been some links with Palermo, who are in Serie B.

Pisa have opened preliminary talks with Fiorentina over M’Bala Nzola after struggling to reach an agreement with Napoli for Giovanni Simeone, while Hellas Verona are close to signing Celta Vigo defender Unai Nunez.

Serie A clubs are busy with negotiations to bring in reinforcements for the 2025-26 campaign, which kicks off in a month.

Sources with direct knowledge of the matter tell me that Pisa enquired about Fiorentina striker Nzola on Wednesday. The Tuscans are open to listening to offers, but may need to pay part of the striker’s salary. Nzola has also attracted interest from foreign clubs.

Pisa remain interested in Napoli’s Simeone, but they’ve been unable to reach an agreement with the Partenopei, so they are exploring alternative options.

Meanwhile, Verona are in advanced talks with Celta Vigo for their defender Unai Nunez, who is expected to leave this summer. Sources tell me that Verona are close to reaching a full agreement with the Spanish club.

Unai Nunez’s possible move to the Stadio Bentegodi is unrelated to Roma’s interest in Daniele Ghilardi, because if the Italian moves to the Olimpico, Verona will sign another centre-back.

Last but not least, Torino are finalising Vanja Milinkovic-Savic’s move to Napoli and the signings of Cyril Ngonge and Franco Israel.

Once those deals are completed and Torino get €22m for Milinkovic-Savic, they’ll probably have the financial resources to sign Gaetano Oristanio from Venezia.

The winger had already spent last season on loan in Turin at a cost of €10m and intensive negotiations reached an agreement for him to make it permanent.

Juventus will pay a further €32m over four instalments to keep hold of the 22-year-old Portuguese talent.

Another big move completed today was also a previous loan, as Pobega had already impressed in the Bologna jersey, helping them to win the Coppa Italia against his parent club Milan.

Now the midfielder has made it stick at the Stadio Dall’Ara, on another loan for €1m with obligation to buy for a further €7m at the end of the season.

Empoli left-back Cacace on verge of Wrexham transfer https://football-italia.net/empoli-left-back-cacace-verge-wrexham-transfer/ https://football-italia.net/empoli-left-back-cacace-verge-wrexham-transfer/#respond Fri, 18 Jul 2025 19:42:07 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=903961

After links with Lecce, Cremonese and Pisa, Wrexham confirm they are close to signing Empoli defender Liberato Cacace.

The 24-year-old is a New Zealand international of obvious Italian origins who has been at Empoli since leaving VV Sint-Truiden in January 2022.

His departure seemed likely after relegation to Serie B and the fact his contract only runs to June 2026.

Numerous clubs were mentioned as options for the left-back, including current top flight Italian sides Lecce, Cremonese and Pisa.

However, The Athletic report that Wrexham are on the verge of making a deal worth a club record €2.5m.

“Libby is a player we have looked at,” Wrexham coach Phil Parkinson told reporters ahead of a pre-season friendly against New Zealand’s Wellington Phoenix.

“It isn’t finalised, as of yet. But I have spoken to Libby and love his character and personality. If we can get the signing completed, he is a player who will fit in with the culture we have created at Wrexham.”

Cacace has 86 Serie A appearances under his belt, where he scored two goals and provided five assists.

As for Wrexham, the club is famous for climbing up the divisions to the Championship after seeing their experience covered extensively in a reality show.

They are also owned by Hollywood figures Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

Scuffet given all clear for transfer from Cagliari to Pisa https://football-italia.net/scuffet-all-clear-transfer-cagliari-to-pisa/ https://football-italia.net/scuffet-all-clear-transfer-cagliari-to-pisa/#respond Fri, 18 Jul 2025 15:40:51 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=903911

Cagliari have given the all-clear for goalkeeper Simone Scuffet to join Pisa after his experience on loan at Scudetto winners Napoli.

The shot-stopper turned 29 in May and was the understudy to Alex Meret at Napoli from January to June in 2025, making just one Serie A appearance.

Now he will have another top flight campaign at Pisa, who just earned promotion by finishing runners-up in Serie B behind Sassuolo last term.

Coach Alberto Gilardino asked to get Scuffet, who will take the gloves and sign a probable two-year contract.

A product of the Udinese youth academy, he played for Como, Kasimpasa, Spezia, APOEL Nicosia, CFR Cluj, Cagliari and Napoli.

His transfer from CFR Cluj to Cagliari in the summer of 2023 was for €2m plus bonuses and a 20 per cent cut of any future profit from a sale.

Although called up for the senior Italy squad at times, Scuffet never managed to get a cap at that level.
