Exclusive: Three Serie A clubs held Idzes talks with Venezia https://football-italia.net/exclusive-three-serie-a-clubs-idzes-talks/ https://football-italia.net/exclusive-three-serie-a-clubs-idzes-talks/#respond Sat, 02 Aug 2025 08:24:07 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=906065

Sassuolo, Torino and Verona have held talks with Venezia over their captain Jay Idzes who is valued at €10m.

Three Serie A clubs, Sassuolo, Verona and Torino, have held talks over a possible move for Venezia captain Idzes this summer.

Verona the first club to call Venezia for Idzes

Sources tell me that Verona were the first club to establish contact with Atalanta, while Sassuolo are interested in both Idzes and Fali Candé and have held talks for both defenders.

Torino held talks over Oristanio and Idzes

Torino have also spoken to Venezia in recent days. The Granata are long-time admirers of Gaetano Oristanio and while trying to reach an agreement over the transfer formula for the Italian striker, they have also mentioned Idzes in negotiations with Venezia.

Torino may have the funds to beat their competitors if Saul Coco quickly accepts an offer from Spartak Moscow,  but everything can still happen on the Idzes front, bearing in mind that Venezia value their captain at €10m.

Sassuolo have Lauriente problem with Fenerbahce and Sunderland offers https://football-italia.net/sassuolo-lauriente-fenerbahce-sunderland/ https://football-italia.net/sassuolo-lauriente-fenerbahce-sunderland/#respond Fri, 01 Aug 2025 19:32:54 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=906024

Sassuolo are still trying to sell Armand Laurienté, but after talks with Sunderland fell apart, they are struggling to agree terms with Fenerbahce too.

The attacking winger is not part of their plans for the new season after promotion into Serie A and he too is eager for a new challenge.

An agreement had been reached with Sunderland to sell for circa €20m, but then he turned down the move after negotiations for personal terms collapsed.

According to Calciomercato.com, there had been an offer from Fenerbahce worth €15m including add-ons, but Sassuolo are holding out for the same sum that they had accepted from Sunderland.

The Neroverdi know they have to sell for a large sum, because they still owe 20 per cent of the profits to his former club FC Lorient.

Laurienté was purchased for €10.10m plus €2m in add-ons in the summer of 2022.

Other clubs to have been linked with him are Napoli and Bologna within Serie A.

There were 11 completed transfers in Serie A on Tuesday July 29, including Canadian Ismael Koné to Sassuolo, a double Cremonese deal, and Zakaria Aboukhlal moving to Torino.

Which official transfers were announced in Serie A on July 29, 2025?

A fresh new talent coming to Serie A is Zakaria Aboukhlal, who arrives on a permanent transfer from Toulouse FC in a deal worth €8m plus €2m in add-ons.

The Morocco international will not be taking up a non-EU slot in the squad, because he also has a Dutch passport.

Sassuolo made a surprising splash on the transfer market by securing Ismael Koné from Olympique Marseille.

It is a loan deal worth €2.5m with option to buy for a further €10m, becoming an obligation if they maintain their Serie A status at the end of the season.

Marseille are also expected to retain a cut of the sell-on fee for the Canada international.

Another Canadian on the move is Tajon Buchanan, but he has left Inter for the permanent transfer to Villarreal at a cost of circa €9m plus a 20 per cent cut of the sell-on fee.

Cremonese achieved a double swoop with Lecce captain Federico Baschirotto arriving for €3m, while Alessio Zerbin is on loan from Napoli with obligation to buy in case of Serie A safety for €2m plus €1m add-ons.

Lega Serie A announce new rule changes for postponed games https://football-italia.net/lega-serie-a-new-rule-changes-postponed-games/ https://football-italia.net/lega-serie-a-new-rule-changes-postponed-games/#respond Tue, 29 Jul 2025 15:26:40 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=905478

The Lega Serie A published the rule changes for the 2025-26 season for deciding what happens when matches are interrupted or postponed, aiming to play within 24 hours.

There were several situations last term where the games were delayed due to weather warnings or events, which saw the fixture list thrown into chaos with the difficulty of rearranging them.

Now the clubs have come together and approved a new set of rules to make the situation easier, or at the very least provide a little more clarity when they do occur.

Serie A rules for postponed fixtures

The Lega Serie A warns that games that were postponed before kick-off must start within the next 24 hours, unless there are exceptional circumstances such as the pitch still being unsuited to a football match, coinciding with the break for international duty, or games that are too close together.

In these cases, the Lega Serie A will dictate the rescheduling at the earliest available opportunity.

There must be at least two free days guaranteed between fixtures for both the teams involved.

When it comes to games that have been interrupted, the same Serie A rule applies as last season, namely that they pick up precisely where they left off.

If a match was stopped after 80 minutes, for example, then the teams will come back out to play the remaining 10 minutes plus stoppages.

Here too, the aim is to resume the day after it was interrupted.

There are some changes in the rules, as clubs can bring in up to three new players who were signed after the interruption, as long as they did not cross over from the other team involved in the match.

However, those who were sent off, substituted, or suspended for the original game cannot be brought back in.

This one had been in the works for a very long time, as negotiations dragged on for weeks before Roma finally managed to get an agreement in place with Flamengo for the wing-back.

The eventual cost of the operation should be a €25m fixed fee, plus €5m in various add-ons.

They also had to wait until Flamengo had successfully found a replacement, who also came from Serie A in the form of Milan’s Emerson Royal for €9m.

Milan also sent striker Colombo to Genoa on loan with an obligation to buy at the end of the season if certain conditions are met.

It is reported the conditions are as simple as the Grifone remaining in Serie A, while the cost should come out at €10m.

Another loan with option to buy saw Alieu Fadera move from Como to Sassuolo, although his parent club did retain a counter-option to bring him back to base next summer.

Sassuolo have officially signed attacking winger Alieu Fadera from Como, on loan with option to buy and counter-option.

The transfer had been in the works for a while and was finally completed this evening.

According to reports, Sassuolo are paying a €1m fee for the one-season loan and have an option to buy at the end of the season for a further €10m.

At the same time, Como will retain a buy-back clause, as confirmed by the statement on the official Sassuolo website.

Fadera made good impact on Serie A

The 23-year-old only joined Como last summer from KRC Genk for €5m plus add-ons.

He is a Gambia international with 12 senior caps for his country.

Primarily a left-sided attacking winger, Fadera scored one goal and provided four assists in his debut season at Como, achieved during 28 Serie A appearances.

Those were 20 starts and eight games coming off the bench as a substitute.

Sassuolo have two new transfers lined up, finally securing Alieu Fadera from Como and Ismael Koné from Olympique Marseille, both on loan with option to buy.

Football Italia have long confirmed that Fadera was being lined up for the Neroverdi and the final details seem to have been completed.

Specifically, Sky Sport Italia put these at a €1m loan with option to buy at the end of the season for a further €10m.

At the same time, Como will retain a buy-back clause in case the winger makes a big impact this term in Serie A.

Como had only purchased the 23-year-old Gambia international from KRC Genk last summer for €5m plus add-ons.

The other deal Sassuolo have ready to go is for Canadian midfielder Koné, who is owned by Olympique Marseille and spent last term on loan at Rennes.

His transfer is going to be a €2.5m loan with an option to buy that becomes an obligation if certain conditions are met for a further €10m.

Marseille can also get a percentage of the sell-on fee in future.

The player was heavily linked with Roma.

As expected, Sassuolo have officially signed Poland international Sebastian Walukiewicz from Torino, on loan with option to buy at the end of the season.

The two clubs had shaken hands yesterday and he left the pre-season training camp to reach his new teammates.

He underwent a medical and put pen to paper on the contract this evening.

It is confirmed as a loan with option to make it permanent at the end of the season.

According to reports, Sassuolo are paying €1m for the one-year loan and a further €6-7m if they wish to buy.

Walukiewicz only joined Torino last summer from Empoli in a transfer worth €4.7m.

He has been in Italian football since coming to Cagliari in January 2019, also playing for Empoli and Toro.

The central defender has 10 senior caps for Poland, with one goal scored.

There had also been links with newly-promoted Cremonese this summer, but Sassuolo completed the transfer this evening.

Flamengo are ready to pay €15m to sign Fiorentina forward Lucas Beltran after initial negotiations, according to reports in Argentina.

The striker was believed to be on the market this summer after the arrival of new coach Stefano Pioli and likely change of tactical system.

Now transfer pundits Cesar Luis Merlo and Raisa Simplicio claim that Flamengo have opened formal talks with Fiorentina for the player.

There could even have already been a starting bid worth €15m.

It probably will not be sufficient to get a sale over the line, as he was signed from River Plate in 2023 for €12.6m plus numerous add-ons.

Sassuolo had been mentioned as an option for Beltran this summer, along with Galatasaray and a return to River Plate.

He was already linked with River Plate going into the FIFA Club World Cup, but they couldn’t get it done in time to register for the tournament.

The Argentina international has made 98 competitive appearances for Fiorentina, where he scored 16 times and provided nine assists for his teammates.

Sassuolo are not just in talks with Como for Alieu Fadera, but also trying to get a deal done for midfielder Yannik Engelhardt.

Nobody spent more in Serie A this summer than Como, which means they now have a surplus of players and need to clear out some of their cupboards.

This presents valuable opportunities for other teams, above all newly promoted Sassuolo, who won the Serie B title last term.

Sassuolo eye up Engelhardt and Fadera

We had already confirmed their focus on picking up attacking wide forward Fadera.

Now Sassuolo are also getting into advanced talks for Como midfielder Engelhardt, who is surplus to requirements for Cesc Fabregas.

There are a few clubs outside of Italy who are also interested in the German, but Sassuolo will try to get in there first.

The 24-year-old was purchased only a year ago from Fortuna Dusseldorf for €8m plus up to €1m in add-ons.

Engelhardt made 26 Serie A appearances for Como, contributing one goal and one assist.

Inter have reportedly agreed the sale of Canada international Tajon Buchanan to Villarreal for €9m plus a cut of the future fee, though he had been in talks with Sassuolo.

According to Sport Mediaset, the two clubs have given the all clear and it is going to be a deal worth €9m with add-ons.

There had been a chance of him remaining within Serie A for newly promoted Sassuolo, but Villarreal won out, especially as he already played there in the last six months on loan.

Buchanan never really got to make his mark with the Nerazzurri jersey following the €7.3m move from Club Brugge in January 2024.

This was partly due to a serious injury after fracturing his leg on international duty with Canada in July 2024, meaning he made only 17 competitive appearances for Inter, with one goal scored.

He went out on loan to Villarreal in January 2025 and contributed one goal with two assists in 13 games.

Poland international Sebastian Walukiewicz has left the Torino training camp to complete his transfer to Sassuolo.

According to multiple sources including Sky Sport Italia, the central defender already started his journey from the Trentino pre-season base.

He is set to undergo a medical and then sign the contract for the transfer to Sassuolo.

This is expected to be a loan deal with option to buy at the end of the season, the contract agreed until June 2029 in case of activation.

According to CanaleSassuolo.it, Sassuolo would be paying €1m for the loan and a further €6-7m for the purchase option.

He had also been linked with newly-promoted Cremonese this summer.

The 25-year-old defender has been in Italy since 2019 for Cagliari, then after a spell with Empoli he was sold to Torino last summer for €4.7m.

Walukiewicz has amassed 109 Serie A appearances and six in the Coppa Italia, but Torino decided not to keep him after just one year with the Granata jersey.

Sassuolo are leading the race for Alieu Fadera, who is set to leave Como and has two other proposals, while Armand Laurienté is considering Serie A offers after Sunderland talks collapsed.

The Neroverdi are very active with their attacking wingers after promotion to Serie A this summer, having topped the Serie B table last season.

Laurienté was on his way to Sunderland and the clubs had agreed the transfer fee, but it fell apart when he failed to agree personal terms with the Premier League side.

Now he is evaluating a few other proposals from within Serie A, having already been on the Bologna radar in the past, but is also keeping an eye on potential new opportunities abroad too.

Meanwhile, Sassuolo have over the last few hours surged ahead in the race for Fadera, who is on his way out of Como.

Fadera has two other offers on the table too, but they should be able to get in ahead of the pack.

The 23-year-old Gambia international joined Como from KRC Genk a year ago for €5m plus €1m in add-ons.

He made 28 Serie A appearances, contributing one goal and four assists.

What’s next for Laurienté after collapsed Sunderland transfer? https://football-italia.net/what-next-lauriente-sunderland-collapsed/ Sun, 20 Jul 2025 11:42:12 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=904086

Armand Laurienté’s proposed Sunderland transfer has collapsed, but the French winger is unlikely to remain at Sassuolo as he wants a new challenge.

French winger Laurienté was supposed to join Sunderland in a €20m deal this summer, but his transfer suddenly collapsed on Sunday, so the 26-year-old is on his way back to Italy.

Laurienté was the top Serie B goalscorer in the 2024-25 season and the best player in Italy’s second division last term, enabling Sassuolo to earn promotion to Serie A.

The Neroverdi were by far the best team in the tournament, so fans didn’t really need football predictions generated using AI. However, with a new top-flight campaign ahead, the Mapei Stadium-based club is preparing to shock some of Italy’s top sides, as they did in their golden era.

Laurienté won’t join Sunderland

It will be worth keeping a close eye on the Neroverdi, who have confirmed Fabio Grosso in charge for 2025-26 after an easy promotion to Serie A last season.

Sassuolo, however, are aware that they won’t rely on Laurienté next season, despite his recent failed Sunderland transfer.

Grosso himself confirmed the winger’s desire to leave just a few weeks ago.

“Laurienté would love to test himself at a higher level,” Grosso said via TMW.

“Speaking with Armand, I try to show him all the possible scenarios, but also highlight what the club have done for him.”

Laurienté joined Sassuolo in a €10m deal from FC Lorient in the summer of 2022 and immediately became a star player at the Mapei Stadium.

The French winger scored 31 goals and provided 18 assists in 102 appearances with Sassuolo, including 18 Serie B goals last season.

The 26-year-old was linked with a move to Napoli in the January transfer window, and his agent even confirmed the Partenopei’s interest a few months ago.

Napoli ‘always’ interested in Laurienté

“Honestly, there was no call from Napoli in January, but they were always interested in the past,” Laurienté’s agent, Roberto Meloni, said in February.

“The lad likes Napoli as a solution, they are a great club, but you need a perfect marriage to finalise the deal.”

Napoli are still looking for an attacking winger despite signing Noa Lang, but this obviously doesn’t mean the French winger will surely end up at the Stadio Maradona.

One thing that is practically certain: Laurienté won’t be playing for either Sassuolo or Sunderland in the 2025-26 season, but his next destination remains to be determined.

Napoli have also targeted Bologna’s Dan Ndoye, but Nottingham Forest have recently made an opening offer to sign the Swiss winger.

Sassuolo will make their 2025-26 Serie A debut against Napoli at home on August 23.

Lauriente’s 20m Sunderland move collapses https://football-italia.net/lauriente-20m-sunderland-move-collapses/ https://football-italia.net/lauriente-20m-sunderland-move-collapses/#respond Sun, 20 Jul 2025 10:57:26 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=904088

Armand Lauriente travelled to England to undergo medical tests with Sunderland, but according to several sources, his move has collapsed, so the winger is returning to Sassuolo.

French winger Laurienté won’t move to Sunderland.

Several sources, including Fabrizio Romano and TMW, confirm that the 26-year-old won’t join the newly promoted Premier League side this summer.

Sunderland and Sassuolo had reached an agreement over a €20m deal, and the player travelled to England on Saturday to undergo medical tests.

It’s still unclear whether the French winger underwent medical tests with the Premier League club, but the reason behind his failed move to Sunderland doesn’t seem to be tied to his fitness.

Laurienté has asked to leave Sassuolo after contributing to their Serie A promotion last season with 18 league goals.

Laurienté was the top scorer in Serie B during the 2024-25 season, as well as the best player in Italy’s second division last term.

Laurienté is now returning to Italy, but it’s unlikely that he’ll remain at Sassuolo for the 2025-26 season.

Sassuolo revive Buchanan talks with Inter as Lauriente’ on way out https://football-italia.net/sassuolo-revive-buchanan-talks-with-inter/ https://football-italia.net/sassuolo-revive-buchanan-talks-with-inter/#respond Fri, 18 Jul 2025 17:18:49 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=903934

Sassuolo are back in negotiations with Inter for Canada international Tajon Buchanan, Football Italia can confirm, and Armand Laurienté heading to Sunderland changes the situation.

We had already stated that Buchanan was an objective for the Neroverdi following their promotion to Serie A over the summer, and that the player was eager to make the move.

The offer on the table had been worth €7-8m with a buy-back option for Inter, plus a percentage of the future sale fee, but it was considered too low at that time.

Why Sassuolo are back in for Buchanan

Things are changing now, especially because Sassuolo are in the process of completing the sale of winger Laurienté to Sunderland.

Now those funds can be reinvested in Buchanan, which is why the talks with Inter are starting to rev up again this evening.

The 26-year-old Canadian plays primarily on the right side as a wing-back or in a more attacking role.

Inter paid €7.3m to buy him from Club Brugge in January 2024 and he spent the last six months on loan with Villarreal, where he tried to make a full recovery from a serious injury.
