PSG reportedly told Italy international Gianluigi Donnarumma he will not be their first choice goalkeeper this season, hoping to push him towards the Premier League.

His contract only runs to June 2026 and negotiations for an extension have hit a dead end, with the player refusing to accept a pay cut, or a formula that would make a large chunk of his salary dependent on performance.

They must sell this summer to avoid losing him as a free agent and French transfer expert Fabrice Hawkins on RMC Sport claims this evening Paris Saint-Germain have taken an extra step to push him out.

Donnarumma told to find a new club

That came from informing Donnarumma that he would not be their first choice goalkeeper, as Lucas Chevalier is set to arrive from LOSC.

They hope that the Italian will not be willing to sit on the bench for the whole campaign and therefore more likely to accept a proposal from the Premier League.

Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City are the clubs most interested in his services.

It is turning into a battle of wills, as it is not the first time that Donnarumma has had to fight for the gloves in Paris, and he could be prepared to do it again.

Rossi on Parma tears, Manchester United anecdotes and surprising Sir Alex https://football-italia.net/rossi-parma-tears-manchester-united-anecdotes/ https://football-italia.net/rossi-parma-tears-manchester-united-anecdotes/#respond Thu, 31 Jul 2025 20:24:50 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=905846

Giuseppe Rossi reveals why he ‘cried every night’ in the Parma academy, was ‘surprised’ by Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United, and was behind an anecdote in Roy Kean’s autobiography.

The striker had been one of the great hopes for Italian football and had flashes of brilliance, but too often his career was ruined by a succession of injury problems.

Born in New Jersey to Italian-American parents, he came to the Parma youth academy at the age of 12 and was then snapped up by Manchester United.

“I didn’t want to go, but I also didn’t want to let my father down, so he and I moved to Salsamaggiore and my mother and sister Tina remained in Clifton, New Jersey,” Rossi told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“It was a struggle, I was shy, introverted, struggled to make friends, and my teachers thought I was only there for football, so didn’t help me at all. I’d cry every night until my mother came to visit. Being on the pitch was the only refuge.”

When he joined Manchester United at the age of 17, Rossi got to work with the legendary coach Sir Alex Ferguson.

“He was a surprise, because he was an austere person, but also affectionate and attentive, a paternal figure who knew how to treat young players like gems. He would protect and motivate them to help them grow as both people and players, with precise values and rules.

“In training, it was like another sport to what I was accustomed to, this brutal pace and intensity. There were no friends in training, lots of shoves, kicks, aggression. I quickly realised what I had to do to earn respect in that squad. I was physically behind the rest, so I had to make do with technique and intelligence.”

Rossi reveals he was behind an anecdote in the Roy Keane autobiography, even though at the time he had not been named.

“Keane wrote that one time in training he had told off a young Italian player for not passing him the ball and this young lad replied with a strong glare, a challenge. If that kid had said something, he would’ve got a slap, but he was silent and his gaze spoke volumes. So he walked over to shake his hand.

“Well, that kid was me. And I don’t remember it at all! Evidently I was in a trance and my determination to create a career was absolute.”

Rossi recently celebrated his career with Pepito Day at Fiorentina with many of his former teammates.

Bernardeschi: ‘Serie A after MLS is like joining the NBA’ https://football-italia.net/bernardeschi-serie-a-after-mls-is-like-nba/ https://football-italia.net/bernardeschi-serie-a-after-mls-is-like-nba/#comments Thu, 31 Jul 2025 14:45:38 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=905779

Federico Bernardeschi admits he ‘missed’ Serie A football while at Toronto FC, uses an NBA analogy, and believes this move to Bologna can put him in the frame for Italy at the 2026 World Cup.

The attacking winger was a free agent after his contract with the MLS club was allowed to run down, putting pen to paper on a new deal with Bologna until 2027, with option to extend for a further season.

“I thank the club, directors and my agent who gave me the opportunity to return to Italy in an increasingly important club,” said Bernardeschi in his presentation press conference this afternoon.

“I am very proud to be a part of this squad and they gave me a really warm welcome. We are in three competitions and it is up to us to ensure the coach has everyone in form to choose from.”

Bologna won the Coppa Italia last season, beating Milan in the Final, and therefore qualified for the Europa League, having participated in the Champions League last term.

Bernardeschi back in Serie A

This is a return to Italian football for Bernardeschi, who had gone out to Major League Soccer in 2022 along with Lorenzo Insigne.

“I did miss Serie A, but I also would make that decision again. It was an experience I don’t regret, both for me and for my family. In physical terms, there’s no gap between MLS and Serie A, but undoubtedly there is on a technical and tactical level. It is frankly difficult to find a more tactically advanced league than Serie A in all of Europe. But MLS with Serie A is like comparing the EuroLega basketball competition to the NBA.”

At the age of 31, Bernardeschi has his sights on a sensational return to the Nazionale, especially if Italy qualify for the 2026 World Cup that will be played in the USA, Canada and Mexico.

Did he receive a call from new Italy coach Gennaro Gattuso?

“No, but considering I’ve been away from the Nazionale for five years, that’s understandable. I won the Euros, but never played in the World Cup. I want to do everything possible to be there.

“I haven’t played a full match for months, but I am in good shape and have to work hard to get up to speed. I’ll be honest, Canada was a lovely experience, but when I got back home at the end of the day, I was missing something. I feed on adrenaline and like a bit of pressure every day. I missed it.”

Newcastle ‘know’ Atalanta asking price for Scalvini, says transfer expert https://football-italia.net/newcastle-know-atalanta-asking-price-scalvini/ https://football-italia.net/newcastle-know-atalanta-asking-price-scalvini/#comments Thu, 31 Jul 2025 08:59:40 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=905690

Matteo Moretto confirms that Atalanta are unwilling to sell Giorgio Scalvini as Newcastle ‘know’ La Dea’s asking price exceeds €50m.

Atalanta are yet to receive an offer for Italian defender Scalvini, but are unwilling to sell the 21-year-old this summer, as Football Italia already reported on Wednesday.

Newcastle know Scalvini price tag

Transfer expert Matteo Moretto confirms Newcastle are aware of Atalanta’s firm stance on the player and know that they’ll need an above-market offer to persuade La Dea to sell their defender.

“Newcastle know that, for Atalanta, Scalvini is an important player who is valued more than €50m,” Moretto said.

Scalvini had an unfortunate 2024-25 campaign as he returned from a cruciate ligament injury in January, but was soon forced out of action again, because of a shoulder injury which required surgery.

Scalvini has a long-term Atalanta contract

A product of the Atalanta academy, the 21-year-old defender has already made 89 Serie A appearances, scoring four goals.

Scalvini has already made his senior Italy debut, making eight appearances with the Azzurri.

His contract with Atalanta expires in June 2028.

Fulham striker among Atalanta’s options to replace Retegui https://football-italia.net/fulham-striker-atalanta-option-replace-retegui/ https://football-italia.net/fulham-striker-atalanta-option-replace-retegui/#comments Thu, 31 Jul 2025 08:16:45 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=905683

Tolu Arokodare, Rodrigo Muniz and Nikola Krstovic are among Atalanta’s targets to replace Italy international Mateo Retegui.

Atalanta are still looking for replacements for Italy forward Retegui, who completed a €65m transfer to Al Qadsiah just a few days ago.

Sources with direct knowledge of the matter tell me that Fulham forward Muniz is among Atalanta’s options to replace the latest Serie A top goalscorer.

La Dea’s priority remains Genk forward Arokodare, but it’s a pretty tricky deal, so it’s not guaranteed that the Nerazzurri will actually finalise it.

Lecce star Krstovic is another name being discussed at the Gewiss Stadium. The Montenegro international is expected to leave this summer after scoring 19 goals in 54 appearances across his two-year spell at the Via del Mare.

In the meantime, Atalanta are also in talks with Inter over Ademola Lookman’s sale and, as I revealed last week, Federico Chiesa is seen as a possible replacement for the Nigerian forward.

Gentile: Juventus need more than Tonali but have one untouchable player https://football-italia.net/gentile-juventus-more-tonali-1-untouchable/ https://football-italia.net/gentile-juventus-more-tonali-1-untouchable/#respond Wed, 30 Jul 2025 14:41:59 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=905622

Former Italy star Claudio Gentile believes Juventus would need more than Sandro Tonali to raise their level in midfield and feels Kenan Yildiz is the only untouchable player in Turin.

Italy World Cup winner Gentile is the latest ex-Juventus player to suggest the Old Lady should sign Tonali from Newcastle this summer.

There were reports that the Bianconeri wanted to sign the ex-Milan star in previous months, but speculations ended once Cristiano Giuntoli was sacked and replaced by Damien Comolli.

Gentile: Juventus need more than Tonali

“Tonali would be a great addition, but something would still be needed to raise Juventus’ level,” Gentile told Gazzetta.

Miralem Pjanic and Luca Toni previously stated that the Bianconeri should secure Tonali’s signature to take a step forward in the middle of the park.

However, Gentile added another Italy international to the list of players Juventus should consider signing.

“I see that Donnarumma’s contract is expiring and that PSG are considering another goalkeeper. Now that would be a Juventus-style signing,” he said.

“I don’t know if it’s feasible, and I have nothing against the talented Di Gregorio, but historically, the national team’s goalkeeper has been a Juventus player. It would be nice if that were the case this time, too. We’re talking about the No.1 among the No.1.”

Gentile: Yildiz ‘untouchable’ at Juventus

Juventus have signed Jonathan David and João Mario this summer and are now working on sales before bringing in more new players. Dusan Vlahovic is undoubtedly among those edging towards the exit door at the Allianz Stadium.

“If a player no longer wants to stay, I’m always in favour of selling,” said Gentile.

“Everyone should be free to go wherever they prefer, but honestly, from the outside, I don’t understand what happened with Vlahovic over the past few years.”

When asked which Juventus player is untouchable, Gentile replied without hesitation: “Yildiz. The Turkish player is shining light, and we hope that a great Juventus will gradually emerge around him, once again fighting for the title. Yildiz is someone who solves many problems on the field with his plays, the club is right to hold him tight.”

Materazzi thanks Chelsea and Maresca for beating PSG in Club World Cup Final https://football-italia.net/materazzi-thanks-maresca-chelsea-beat-psg/ https://football-italia.net/materazzi-thanks-maresca-chelsea-beat-psg/#respond Wed, 30 Jul 2025 14:16:36 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=905615

Former Inter defender Marco Materazzi thanks Enzo Maresca and Chelsea for ‘avenging’ Inter’s defeat in the Champions League Final against PSG and admits ex-Everton coach Walter Smith treated him like a son.

Italy World Cup winner Materazzi spoke about his time in the Premier League in an interview with Lega Serie A.

Materazzi left Perugia in 1998 to join Everton, where he played for one season before returning to the Stadio Curi.

Materazzi: Everton spell ‘beautiful and difficult’

“It was very beautiful and difficult. I went there with my wife and my son, who was eight months old,” admitted the ex-defender.

“We were alone, and I can’t deny that I would have stayed in Perugia because we had won the [Serie B] league. I returned to Perugia, and we were relegated, so I decided to bring the club back to Serie A. We managed to get promoted, and then they sold me to Everton. I told them I wanted to stay as the captain. I was earning very little compared to other players, so I asked to find an agreement to stay, but they said I had to leave, so I packed my bags and went to Liverpool.

“My wife convinced me, she said: ‘It’s going to change our life for the better’, and it’s what happened. I knew that going to England meant I would not be considered for the national team, and that’s the real reason why I returned to Italy.

“I remember everything about my time in England, the coach, who unfortunately is no longer here, Walter Smith. He loved Italy and always brought his teams to Italy for pre-season camp, so that was very helpful. The fact that he loved Italians was helpful because he treated me like a son, and when you go abroad, having someone who supports you and believes in you, not just as a player, but also as a man, helps a lot with settling in.”

A very physical centre-back, Materazzi’s characteristics suited the Premier League’s style in those years.

“Everyone said I had the right skill set to play in the Premier League,” he admitted.

“Particularly in those years, it wasn’t the forefront of the sport. In those years, the only teams that played the ‘Latin way’ were West Ham, who played very well, Manchester United and Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal.

“As for the others, when you played Wimbledon, for example, the dressing rooms were small, but the size of the strikers made me look small. However, English football has evolved now and has adapted to the philosophies of the likes of Maresca, Guardiola. Maresca even became World Champion, and I have to thank him for avenging Inter’s defeat in the Champions League Final.”

Maresca’s Chelsea became the first Club World Cup winners earlier this month after beating PSG in the Final played in New York.

The Ligue 1 giants had beaten Inter 5-0 in the Champions League Final in May.

Materazzi returned to Perugia in 1999 and then signed for Inter in 2001. He spent ten years at San Siro, winning several trophies, including five Serie A titles, four Coppa Italia and one Champions League.

Materazzi retired in 2017 after a three-year spell at Chennaiyin.

Verratti reveals dinner that sparked Messi’s PSG move from Barcelona https://football-italia.net/verratti-dinner-sparked-messi-psg-move/ https://football-italia.net/verratti-dinner-sparked-messi-psg-move/#respond Wed, 30 Jul 2025 11:58:00 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=905599

Italy international Marco Verratti reveals that a dinner with PSG stars and Leo Messi in Ibiza sparked the Argentine’s move to Paris from Barcelona and insists Inter remain favourites to win the Serie A title this season.

Former Pescara star Verratti spoke to Gazzetta dello Sport, revealing that he’d love to play in Serie A with his boyhood club.

The 32-year-old, a serial Ligue 1 title winner with PSG, also spoke about his time in the French capital, revealing that a dinner in Ibiza with some of his ex-teammates somehow led to Leo Messi’s transfer from Barcelona.

“I remember a fantastic evening that turned almost magical. I was in Ibiza and Neymar came to me to say that we’d have dinner with Leo Messi,” Verratti said.

“It was me, Leo, Paredes, Ney and Di Maria at the table. We talked and had a good time. Jokingly, we started pushing him [Messi] to come to Paris. The next day, we read that there were problems between him and Barcelona, and later in the afternoon, Neymar called me to say: ‘Leo is coming [to PSG]. It was incredible to have him for dinner and then become teammates.”

Messi is currently under contract with MLS side Inter Miami.

The Argentine superstar joined PSG in 2021 and spent two years in Paris before his move to the USA.

During his interview, Verratti shared his view on the upcoming Serie A campaign, insisting that Inter remain the favourites for the Scudetto.

“I’m really intrigued by Gasperini at Roma. Gasp has built something extraordinary with Atalanta,” he said.

“I hope Allegri does well at Milan, which is hugely followed here. As I coach, I have a soft spot for Sarri. He has his own style, and some of his principles remind me of Zeman. The idea of controlling the game, and most importantly, his ability to develop players.

“Last year, they really pulled off a miracle. Only somebody like Conte could have done it. For me, however, Inter remain the favourite based on the players they have. If they sign Lookman, they’ll remain the strongest.”

Verratti, a Euro 2020 winner with the Italy national team, has collected 55 appearances with the Azzurri, scoring three goals.

Newcastle need above-market offer to sign Scalvini from Atalanta https://football-italia.net/newcastle-above-market-offer-sign-scalvini/ https://football-italia.net/newcastle-above-market-offer-sign-scalvini/#respond Wed, 30 Jul 2025 11:32:41 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=905597

Newcastle will need a big-money offer to sign Atalanta defender Giorgio Scalvini as La Dea strongly rely on the Italian defender for the 2025-26 season, especially after his return from injury.

Newcastle and other Premier League clubs have been linked with Atalanta defender Scalvini in recent days, but convincing the Serie A side to sell the Italian defender will be no easy feat.

What Newcastle need to sign Scalvini

Sources with direct knowledge of the matter tell me that Newcastle appreciate Scalvini but, on the other hand, Atalanta are unwilling to sell the 21-year-old.

This means that Newcastle and any other interested club would need an above-market offer to persuade Atalanta to change their mind.

Scalvini had been linked with a move to Napoli as well, but the Partenopei’s priority has always been Bologna’s Sam Beukema, who they eventually signed last week.

As for Scalvini, Atalanta strongly rely on the 21-year-old who missed most of the 2024-25 season due to injuries.

Scalvini returned to action after a knee ligament injury in January, but was forced out of action again after just a few weeks, undergoing shoulder surgery.

Only a huge offer could convince Atalanta to change their stance on the player, and currently, they haven’t received any formal proposal.

Verratti dreams of Serie A return with Pescara, PSG victories ‘repetitive’ https://football-italia.net/verratti-serie-a-return-pescara-psg-repetitive/ https://football-italia.net/verratti-serie-a-return-pescara-psg-repetitive/#comments Wed, 30 Jul 2025 10:53:25 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=905591

Marco Verratti admits he dreams of playing in Serie A with Pescara, ‘even just one minute’, while victories at PSG had become ‘repetitive.’

Al-Duhail midfielder Verratti dreams of a Serie A return with his boyhood club, Pescara, who are currently in Serie B.

The Italian midfielder has never played in Italy’s top flight, as he joined PSG in 2012, just a few months after securing Serie A promotion with the Abruzzo-based club.

“The dream is to play even just one minute in Serie A with Pescara,” the 32-year-old told Gazzetta.

“We always need to give ourselves a goal: maybe I’ll achieve it now that I’m co-president with a 50% stake. You see, only for my Pescara I would have done what I truly wanted to do: they gave me everything and I wanted to repay them from the heart.

“I needed a new challenge and new motivations. In Paris, winning had become something almost taken for granted. Here I rediscovered something like a ‘childlike’, the joy of winning, like when I was a kid,” he continued.

“Pure happiness. In Paris, winning had become monotonous, repetitive.”

Verratti won the French titles nine times and lifted the French Cup six times, but PSG have now managed to win the Champions League.

The reporter argued that the Ligue 1 giants won the Cup with the Big Ears despite not having big stars, but Verratti disagreed.

“That’s not true. There are stars there, and they have built a great team that is very focused on the collective. Luis Enrique has done an excellent job,” he said.

“They’ll keep winning for years to come. One thing, they wrote that I had left PSG because Luis Enrique wanted it. It’s not true. I can guarantee that my conversation with Nasser Al Khelaifi about leaving happened much earlier. I told him I wanted new challenges. We are still on great terms, he’s an outstanding person.”

Verratti is a Euro 2020 winner with the Italy national team and has collected 55 appearances with La Nazionale, scoring three goals.

A PSG legend, Verratti spent 11 seasons at PSG, scoring 11 goals in 416 appearances.

Agent: Serie A return ‘difficult’ for Balotelli https://football-italia.net/agent-serie-a-return-difficult-balotelli/ https://football-italia.net/agent-serie-a-return-difficult-balotelli/#comments Tue, 29 Jul 2025 13:53:44 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=905440

Mario Balotelli’s agent Enzo Raiola admits that the striker’s return to Serie A is ‘difficult’ after a negative spell at Genoa: ‘We’ll consider other options.’

Balotelli is available as a free agent after his contract with Genoa expired in June.

The Italian striker signed for Il Grifone in October, but only made six appearances under Patrick Vieira.

“Last year, he made a decision from the heart and for his life, choosing to stay in Italy, hoping to find a club. In the end, there was an opportunity, but things didn’t go as he hoped,” Raiola told DerbyDerbyDerby.

“Mario has always had many offers from abroad and still does, but at this point, it’s difficult for him to return to Serie A, especially after this last experience, which wasn’t positive.”

Why Balotelli flopped at Genoa

What didn’t work at Marassi for the 34-year-old?

“It wasn’t because of a lack of commitment,” said Raiola.

“He gave everything to prove his worth, but he didn’t find the right conditions. I told him last year that he should consider offers from abroad, which were significant. He chose Italy, and I respected his decision. Today, there are no negotiations underway for him in Italy. We’ll consider other options, but a final decision is up to him.”

Genoa wasn’t the only option for Balotelli last year.

“There was a discussion with Torino’s ownership to assess the feasibility, but Genoa moved quickly and Mario accepted their offer,” Raiola concluded.

Balotelli has played for several Serie A clubs in his career, including Inter and Milan.

He has netted 52 goals in 147 appearances in Italy’s top flight.

The Italian striker also played for Manchester City and Liverpool, scoring 21 goals in 70 league appearances in England.

Balotelli made his senior Italy debut in 2010 and scored 14 goals in 36 international appearances.

His trophy cabinet includes a Champions League and three Serie A titles with Inter and one Premier League title with Manchester City.

Cagliari present new stadium project with EURO 2032 changes https://football-italia.net/cagliari-new-stadium-project-euro-2032-changes/ https://football-italia.net/cagliari-new-stadium-project-euro-2032-changes/#comments Mon, 28 Jul 2025 15:37:35 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=905285

Cagliari have presented the new and improved project for their stadium, which increases to 30,000 seats, will be named after legend Gigi Riva, and hopes to host EURO 2032.

The rush is on to build new arenas that can be suitable for host duties when Italy share the organisation of the European Championship with Turkey in 2032.

That means finding five stadiums that are up to the UEFA standards required for the tournament, or can be built by the necessary deadlines.

The latest hoping to get the all clear is in Sardinia, where again the attempts to build a new venue have been dragging on for many years.

This morning, Cagliari President Tommaso Giulini met with the local council to discuss the plans to demolish the Stadio Sant’Elia, which has not been used for several years and was supposed to have been knocked down in 2022, and put them forward as a host city for EURO 2032.

As part of that plan, the project itself has changed from 25,000 seater to 30,000, allowing it to suit the European standards.

A meeting is also set up with the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) on Wednesday.

“We believe that we are quite far ahead compared to other competitors, because we deposited the definitive project and the metric calculations,” lawyer Antonio Romei told reporters.

“We are in the front row, or near enough, and want to bring the Euros to Cagliari.”

Product of Milan academy, Camarda is already shining at Lecce, having already netted four goals in two pre-season friendlies with the Giallorossi.

The promising Italian forward netted his fourth goal of the pre-season in a 2-1 win over Spezia on Sunday.

“He has a great desire, and he has never missed a training session,” new Lecce coach Di Francesco said via Calciomercato.com.

Italian sources claim that Antonio Conte will meet with Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis and club director Giovanni Manna today to discuss strategies for Dan Ndoye, Federico Chiesa, Jack Grealish and other transfer targets.

Napoli players are enjoying a two-day break after the conclusion of the first part of the pre-season in Trentino.

Preparations for the 2025-26 campaign will resume in Abruzzo in two days, but Conte and the club directors are taking no days off.

According to Gazzetta and Corriere dello Sport, Conte, ADL, and Manna will meet for lunch on the island of Ischia, alongside their families, to discuss the latest transfer strategies for the summer.

Conte still needs one attacking winger, but Bologna have rejected Napoli’s latest proposal for Ndoye, who is still the primary target for the Italian tactician, as Football Italia reported weeks ago.

Ndoye has also held talks with Nottingham Forest, but has prioritised a move to the Stadio Maradona, as reported by our transfer expert Alfredo Pedullà.

Ndoye isn’t the only Napoli target, as the Partenopei continue to follow the likes of Chiesa, Grealish, and Raheem Sterling.

Targets in other departments include Juventus’ midfielder Fabio Miretti and Sevilla right-back Juanlu Sanchez.

Donnarumma wanted by both Manchester United and City https://football-italia.net/donnarumma-wanted-both-manchester-united-city/ https://football-italia.net/donnarumma-wanted-both-manchester-united-city/#comments Sat, 26 Jul 2025 18:10:50 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=905098

L’Equipe claim that Manchester United and Manchester City are both interested in Italy international Gianluigi Donnarumma, as PSG aim to replace him with Lucas Chevalier.

There had already been multiple reports over the last few days that Donnarumma’s future in France was in serious doubt.

His contract only runs to June 30, 2026, and negotiations to extend with a changed wage structure have hit a dead end.

Donnarumma cannot continue at PSG

Refusing to lose another top star on a free transfer, Paris Saint-Germain have seemingly decided to sell the Azzurri captain this summer.

That also means finding a replacement, who is set to be LOSC goalkeeper Chevalier, although the cost of that transfer is bound to be at least €40m.

The development this evening is that L’Equipe report both Manchester United and Manchester City are in the running for the Italy international.

They join Chelsea and Galatasaray in being previously linked with the former Milan star, who is fresh from his decisive role in the Champions League triumph.

If he was to return to Serie A, the only likely candidates would be Inter and Juventus.

Donnarumma speculation growing with Galatasaray offer ready https://football-italia.net/donnarumma-speculation-galatasaray-offer-ready/ https://football-italia.net/donnarumma-speculation-galatasaray-offer-ready/#comments Sat, 26 Jul 2025 14:23:32 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=905054

Reports are growing rapidly that Galatasaray will make a formal offer to Paris Saint-Germain for Gianluigi Donnarumma, as the Italy international’s entourage seek his next club.

The departure seems increasingly inevitable because his contract is due to expire at the end of this season and they are still nowhere close to an agreement for an extension.

PSG are determined to change the structure of the contract to limit a third of his salary to bonuses based on the number of games he plays during the season, which the player and his agents are steadfastly against.

They fear this is trying to set up another situation where Donnarumma has to share the gloves with his understudy, just as he had become the undisputed first choice last term.

Donnarumma targeted by many clubs

Galatasaray are certainly looking for a high class goalkeeper, having already made proposals to Milan’s Mike Maignan, Yann Sommer at Inter and Manchester City man Ederson, so Donnarumma would fit the bill.

His current wages come to €12m per season and that would be very difficult for an Italian team like Inter or Juventus to match.

Premier League sides are also interested, including Chelsea and Manchester United, so today’s reports suggest Donnarumma’s agents are now actively sending out feelers to see who is ready to make an offer.

With reports Paris Saint-Germain are ready to sell Gianluigi Donnarumma, Galatasaray continue to pursue the Italy international for an unlikely swoop.

The former Milan man is down to the final months of his contract in Paris, which expires at the end of the season.

Negotiations for him to take a pay cut have found very little progress, and L’Equipe stated last night that PSG were fully prepared to sell this summer rather than risk losing another top star name as a free agent.

Finding another club prepared to pay his current €12m per season salary is going to be tricky in Serie A, even if Juventus and Inter remain interested.

Chelsea and Manchester United are more likely contenders in the Premier League.

However, Tuttomercatoweb warn that Galatasaray genuinely believe they can make the move stick and coax the Italian to the Turkish Super Lig.

They are already making heavy investments with Victor Osimhen from Napoli at a cost of €75m, while they had tried to approach Milan’s Mike Maignan and Ederson of Manchester City for the goal.

New Italy coach Gennaro Gattuso paid a visit to Roma’s Trigoria training ground today, meeting with coach Gian Piero Gasperini and the Italian players.

The tactician took over from sacked Luciano Spalletti during the summer and is preparing to name his first squad ahead of the crucial 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

He makes his debut for the Nazionale at home to Estonia on September 5, then faces Israel on neutral turf on September 8.

With that in mind and so little time to get to know the players, Gattuso is planning to visit many of the Serie A pre-season training retreats.

The Nazionale chief was accompanied by assistants Leonardo Bonucci and Luigi Riccio.

The Giallorossi social media account published pictures of the Azzurri CT with players Bryan Cristante and Gianluca Mancini.

He is next expected to meet with Fiorentina and their new boss Stefano Pioli on Saturday at the Viola Park complex.

Tottenham Hotspur can expect a wave of local support in the UEFA Super Cup against Paris Saint-Germain, because it’s the host city of the first Guglielmo Vicario fan club.

The two teams will face off at the Stadio Friuli in Udine for the European Super Cup on August 13, between the winners of the Champions League and Europa League trophies.

While PSG have Italy international Gianluigi Donnarumma in the side, the local fans will all be behind Spurs for one very specific reason.

Vicario the local lad who found fame in London

The world’s first Vicario fan club has been founded in Udine, which is the hometown of the 28-year-old goalkeeper.

He came up through the Udinese youth academy, going on to play for Venezia, Cagliari, Perugia, Empoli and then making the €18.5m transfer to Tottenham in 2023.

La Gazzetta dello Sport point out the fan club was set up at the Black Stuff Irish pub in Udine, by Giovanni and Cesare Pigani, with the help of Alessandro Bais and Vicario’s uncle Francesco Persolja.
