Reports in Italy claim that there is a growing rift in the Inter dressing room after the latest saga surrounding midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu and indirect statements made about him by captain Lautaro Martinez, and now Marcus Thuram appears to have given his support to the former on social media.

What happened with Calhanoglu, Lautaro Martinez and Inter?

Calhanoglu has been linked with a move away from Inter this summer, with reports suggesting that he could be in line for a lucrative move back to his home nation.

The Nerazzurri midfielder travelled with his teammates to the United States for the Club World Cup, but did not feature in any of the team’s four matches at the tournament. He has recently re-confirmed that his absence was due to injury, rather than transfer speculation.

However, captain Lautaro Martinez sent a strong word of warning to any players in the Inter dressing room who do not want to be there.

Speaking after the team’s exit from the FIFA Club World Cup, Lautaro warned: “We have a clear message: anyone who wants to stay must stay, anyone who doesn’t want to stay here should leave.

“I am not going to name names. We are here to give our all, but I saw many things I did not like. I am captain, I am the leader of the group, so I have to speak up.

“The message is clear: those who want to stay and continue challenging for important trophies can do so, otherwise, goodbye.”

While Lautaro did not name any specific individuals, Inter President Beppe Marotta has hinted that he was, in fact, referencing Calhanoglu

In response, Calhanoglu has posted a long statement clarifying his standpoint and insisting that he has been out through injury rather than for transfer-related reasons.

As per Calciomercato.com, the only other Inter player to ‘like’ Calhanoglu’s statement, which was put out on social media on Tuesday, is Marcus Thuram. Calciomercato suggests that the like indicates a ‘big rift’ within the Nerazzurri dressing room.

The post has also received likes from Gaia Lucariello, the wife of former Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi, and former Nerazzurri teammate Marko Arnautovic.

3 thought on “Thuram likes Calhanoglu post and adds to Inter dressing room rift”
  1. Thuram should shut up. Ha has changed more hairstyles then making goals in 2025. He can leave of he wants.

  2. Marcus thuram wants to go too but we are inter and I hope Moratta put to transfermarkt to him, if he dont wanna our club so he leave

  3. I agree Thuram very overrated stick with the two brothers and bony we don’t need these losers they cause more problems.
