Multiple outlets in Italy are reporting that Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi has decided to leave in order to join Saudi Pro League Al-Hilal.

Breaking: Inzaghi decides to leave Inter

Inzaghi, who was appointed Inter head coach exactly four years ago today, is expected to step away and join Al-Hilal, and is expected to lead the Saudi Pro League outfit into the FIFA Club World Cup, which kicks off on June 14.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Inzaghi will be in charge of Al-Hilal in time for their first FIFA Club World Cup match, which will be against Real Madrid on June 18.

Recent reports claim that Inzaghi has been offered a staggering €30m-per-season deal to become the head coach of Al-Hilal.

The coach’s decision to leave comes after a meeting with the Inter senior management on Tuesday, during which the coach expressed his desire to leave, Football Italia can confirm.

The 49-year-old was due to enter the final year of his contract in the summer, with an expiry date set at the end of the 2025-26 campaign.

The news of Inzaghi’s expected departure comes just a few days after he and the Nerazzurri suffered the heaviest ever defeat in a Champions League or European Cup final, having lost 5-0 to Paris Saint-Germain at the Allianz Arena in Munich on Saturday night.

Inter have reached two Champions League finals in three years under Inzaghi’s stewardship, but were beaten in both finals, first by Manchester City in 2023 and then by PSG in 2025.

Despite the fact that Inter were still on for a treble in April, the Nerazzurri finished the 2024-25 season without silverware.

Inzaghi leaves with one Serie A title (2023-24), two Coppa Italia titles (2021-22 and 2022-23) and three trophies from the Supercoppa Italiana (2021, 2022 and 2023).

  1. If he does leave, why is nobody mentioning Sarri as a replacement? I would choose him over other names like Italiano, De zerbi, Mancini or Motta!

  2. Well overrated coach who left us with 1 Scudetto in 4 seasons despite having the best team in Italy every season who then took the money and ran the first chance he got, and left us eternally shamed in CL history.

Good riddance, hope we never see you again.

  3. Why would you leave? Why? The club was ready to invest this summer and bring some names, some fresh blood.
Would you want to stay with the memory of that 5-0 for the rest of your life. That will go away only if you go for a 3rd final and win it.
    His loss, I say!
Now, who do we bring instead? What coach will make the change from his 3-5-2 system, in the shortest time, so we can win again?

  4. @Mihai B I was also posing myself the same question, “Why would he leave” (except for the money). I listened to the Italian Football Podcast yesterday and I got my answer. Take a listen if you wish, but basically the answer they presented there was Marotta, and basically Indzagi getting very little support (financial or other) and all of the blame.

  5. @GK Interesting, I always thought Marotta liked him and supported him… well, at least most of the time. Anyway, even if we wanted to leave, I think we would’ve been better if he stayed in Europe rather than go to Al-Hilal. Surely there are some big clubs that would’ve wanted him. After his contract expires there, if it’s not extended, what will he do, how high will his “stock” be among European clubs?
There’s another thing I don’t understand from this: why would Al-Hilal want a manager that requires so much money to “lure out” of a club (even if money’s not an issue)? Surely they could’ve gotten someone cheaper and still good enough, right?

  6. @Mihai B, i would leave if I got 30 millions a year too. That was painful for fans but at least Inzaghi can earn loads. I think he is leaving winning or losing. Shame I really want an italian team to win. I say Fabregas. Italian teams need to change approach in Europe.

  7. Tired of posting comments here and for them to disappear after I click Post Comment. Do something about it FI!
And also checking comments for half an hour before letting them appear on the site is not in any way helpful for a meaningful discussion.

  8. Finally sth good to happen to my beloved Inter! People accuse me of being negative but the truth is that we lost two scudetti to Milan and Napoli and brought shame in UCL final because of his stubbornness … thanks for his contributions … good luck to him and good riddance to Inter 🙏 win win ❤
