Francesco Acerbi believes Inter will improve after a 5-0 loss against PSG in the Champions League Final, but PSG were ‘twice as fast’ as the Nerazzurri.
PSG shocked Inter with a 5-0 win in the Champions League Final on Saturday, the biggest defeat ever in a Final of a major European tournament.
“Reaching the Champions League Final twice in three years and missing the win hurts,” Acerbi told Sky Sport Italia.
“The journey was thrilling, and it will serve to improve and grow. For example, we thought we could play a good game against Manchester City [in 2023], and we made them struggle. In the end, PSG made it. We seemed quite calm, very relaxed, but then we were blocked, and physically, they were going twice as fast.”
Inter were running for the treble only one month ago, but consecutive defeats against Bologna, Milan, and Roma were a dramatic turning point in their season, despite an epic 7-6 aggregate victory against Barcelona in the Champions League semifinals.
“It’s hard to say it’s an excellent season, considering we’re trophyless, but it’s truly wonderful because we gave our all,” Acerbi concluded.
The experienced defender is one of the players called up by Luciano Spalletti for Italy’s games against Norway and Moldova.
His teammate and compatriot Nicolò Barella also commented on Inter’s heavy loss, admitting that PSG wanted it more than the Nerazzurri.
Inter’s next competitive match is against Monterrey in the Club World Cup on June 18. Inter will be one of the Serie A representatives alongside Juventus.
