Former Italy star Claudio Gentile believes Juventus would need more than Sandro Tonali to raise their level in midfield and feels Kenan Yildiz is the only untouchable player in Turin.
Italy World Cup winner Gentile is the latest ex-Juventus player to suggest the Old Lady should sign Tonali from Newcastle this summer.
There were reports that the Bianconeri wanted to sign the ex-Milan star in previous months, but speculations ended once Cristiano Giuntoli was sacked and replaced by Damien Comolli.
Gentile: Juventus need more than Tonali
“Tonali would be a great addition, but something would still be needed to raise Juventus’ level,” Gentile told Gazzetta.
Miralem Pjanic and Luca Toni previously stated that the Bianconeri should secure Tonali’s signature to take a step forward in the middle of the park.
However, Gentile added another Italy international to the list of players Juventus should consider signing.
“I see that Donnarumma’s contract is expiring and that PSG are considering another goalkeeper. Now that would be a Juventus-style signing,” he said.
“I don’t know if it’s feasible, and I have nothing against the talented Di Gregorio, but historically, the national team’s goalkeeper has been a Juventus player. It would be nice if that were the case this time, too. We’re talking about the No.1 among the No.1.”
Gentile: Yildiz ‘untouchable’ at Juventus
Juventus have signed Jonathan David and João Mario this summer and are now working on sales before bringing in more new players. Dusan Vlahovic is undoubtedly among those edging towards the exit door at the Allianz Stadium.
“If a player no longer wants to stay, I’m always in favour of selling,” said Gentile.
“Everyone should be free to go wherever they prefer, but honestly, from the outside, I don’t understand what happened with Vlahovic over the past few years.”
When asked which Juventus player is untouchable, Gentile replied without hesitation: “Yildiz. The Turkish player is shining light, and we hope that a great Juventus will gradually emerge around him, once again fighting for the title. Yildiz is someone who solves many problems on the field with his plays, the club is right to hold him tight.”
